Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As an Assistant Manager in Benchmarking at Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the performance excellence of our ICE and electric vehicles. Your core responsibilities will involve preparing detailed benchmark test plans and executing comprehensive vehicle-level performance evaluations, including brakes, acceleration, gradeability, thermal mapping, and ride and handling assessments. You will be entrusted with the preparation and instrumentation of benchmark vehicles, ensuring they are optimally configured for accurate testing.
Your role will also encompass meticulous data acquisition and analysis, crafting precise reports to be reviewed and shared with key stakeholders. Coordination with renowned outdoor testing agencies such as GARC, ICAT, VRDE, and ARAI will be critical to gathering authoritative performance data. You will manage the functional operations of various testing instruments, engaging hands-on with multi-channel CAN and serial data acquisition systems and sensors including VBOX, IMC, and e-DAQ, along with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, CANoe, and analogue sensors.
Knowledge of electrical components and systems, adherence to global compliance standards, and a thorough understanding of automotive benchmark processes will be integral to your success. You will also be expected to apply diagnostic tools for CAN and analog data acquisition and possess a strong understanding of EV components and their functions. Issue analysis and problem-solving will rely heavily on your capabilities with relevant techniques and tools. Continuous improvement will be encouraged through the collection and application of lessons learned from previous projects and overall vehicle evaluations.
You will contribute to the development of project-specific jury evaluation questionnaires and facilitate interactions with instrument agencies to address new requirements and procurements. This will be done in alignment with company processes and tools such as SAP and Cordys. Frequent travel to outdoor test facilities located in Chennai, Pune, Ahmednagar, and Delhi is anticipated to ensure robust testing and benchmarking activities.
Experience
Ideal candidates should bring 4 to 5 years of practical experience in vehicle performance and benchmarking, preferably gained within an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) environment. Experience with automotive industries, engineering technology services, or R&D in tyre manufacturing will be highly regarded.
Competence in handling a variety of vehicle attributes testing and measurement tools is essential. This includes proficiency with CAN data loggers such as Vector CANoe, CANanalyser, Influx, Ipetronics, and CSS. Operating data acquisition systems like IMC, VBOX, Agilent, and Thermo modules is expected, alongside familiarity with software suites such as Busmaster, IP Emotion, VBOX Suite, and Vector versions Ver 10 or higher. Cross-functional teamwork experience will support collaboration across departments.
A solid understanding of vehicle-level electrical architecture and diagnostic tools for CAN and analog data acquisition, with an emphasis on EV components, will empower candidates to excel in this role. Strong problem-solving skills, demonstrated through effective issue analysis, are vital. Candidates must also have practical driving experience with three-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles, holding a valid driving licence.
Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, will be required to manage documentation and presentations professionally. Basic arithmetic skills for calculating vehicle specifications such as power and torque will complement your technical expertise.
Industry Preferred
The preferred industry experience includes roles within OEMs and automotive sectors that focus on vehicle performance measurement and benchmarking. Exposure to engineering technology service industries and tyre manufacturing research and development will be advantageous.
Additionally, candidates having worked with globally reputed automotive companies and testing agencies such as Tata Motors Ltd, Volvo, Bajaj, Ashok Leyland, Daimler, TVS, Bosch, GARC, Force Motors, Tata Technologies, Continental, Hero Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tech Mahindra, and Eicher Motors will bring valuable insights and best practices to the position.
Experience interfacing with various vehicle testing and benchmarking setups across a wide range of vehicle types, including ICE and electric vehicles, aligns well with the requirements for this role.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess a degree in Automobile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics. Strong foundational knowledge in vehicle benchmarking processes with relevant hands-on experience using specialized testing and measurement tools is essential.
Required technical expertise includes experience with CAN data loggers such as Vector CANoe and CANanalyser, alongside data acquisition systems like IMC, VBOX, Agilent, Influx loggers, Ipetronics, and thermo modules. Familiarity with software tools including Busmaster, IP Emotion, VBOX Suite, and Vector Ver 10 or above will assist in efficient data analysis and testing operations.
The ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and apply problem-solving methods effectively are key qualifications. Candidates with a background understanding of overall vehicle electronic and ICE components will have a competitive edge.
Additional qualifications include valid driving licences for three- and four-wheeled vehicles, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and competency with basic arithmetic calculations relevant to vehicle power, torque, and performance metrics.
