Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager in Electrical & Electronics Validation will play a pivotal role within the Product Development division of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited. This position is essential for overseeing and executing rigorous battery cell and pack testing activities, ensuring compliance with stringent automotive and regulatory standards while fostering innovation and continuous improvement in validation processes.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Lead the planning and meticulous execution of validation test plans at the battery cell, pack, system, and vehicle levels, ensuring adherence to timelines and technical requirements.
  • Develop, review, and implement testing procedures aligned with industry standards such as AIS, ECE, ISO, and IEC to evaluate battery performance, durability, thermal management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and continuously enhance the Battery LAB test facility, ensuring optimal operation of equipment including cell and pack cyclers, test benches, and data acquisition systems.
  • Analyze complex test data from CAN and analog sources using advanced diagnostic tools, synthesizing findings into comprehensive reports with actionable insights.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action processes using quality methodologies such as 8D, Fault Tree Analysis, and Why-Why Analysis, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate a team of operational executives and technicians, fostering a culture of precision, safety, and professional growth.
  • Engage proactively with external testing agencies to manage certification and compliance testing, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Prepare and communicate detailed daily and weekly management information systems (MIS) to key stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Champion initiatives to improve validation efficiency, optimize resource utilization, and drive innovative testing strategies.

Reporting Structure:
This role reports directly to the Manager or Senior Manager in Validation and supervises operational executives (L9O/L10) including technicians.

Experience

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in high-voltage battery cell and pack testing, with demonstrated expertise in using Cell & Pack cyclers and conducting performance and regulatory testing in electric vehicle (EV) contexts.
  • Proven experience in handling data loggers, testing instrumentation, and CAN bus diagnostic tools such as Vector CANalyzer and CANoe.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with regulatory certifications and standards pertinent to EV batteries including AIS, ECE, IEC, and ISO.
  • Hands-on experience in analyzing and interpreting complex test data, preparing comprehensive validation reports, and executing root cause investigations with quality management tools.
  • Experience in leading operational teams within a technical environment, with skills in mentoring, task coordination, and fostering collaborative progress toward project objectives.

Desirable Additional Experience:

  • Experience working in validation labs equipped for battery system thermal testing and environmental simulations.
  • Exposure to automotive product development cycles, especially within electric mobility or automotive electronics domains.
  • Familiarity with software tools like MATLAB and Simulink related to battery management system (BMS) testing and simulation.

Industry Preferred

Preferred Industry Background:

  • Automotive industry with emphasis on electric vehicle (EV) battery systems and components.
  • Electric mobility sector focusing on battery chemistry, charging systems, and battery management systems.
  • Advanced manufacturing and product testing organizations specializing in high voltage battery packs and related electronic components.
  • Research and development centers or testing laboratories engaged in automotive validation and certification processes.

Experience from globally recognized automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers who specialize in EV powertrain or battery validation is highly valued.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institute.

Professional Skills & Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of battery cell chemistry, charging protocols, and battery management system functionalities tailored for electric vehicle applications.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive standards such as IS, AIS, ECE, ISO, and IEC applicable to battery and electronic validation.
  • Proficiency with vehicle network communication protocols, including CAN bus, and diagnostic software tools like CANalyzer and CANoe.
  • Ability to interpret design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), system architecture, and functional logic to simulate and validate battery management functions.
  • Practical skills in test setup preparation including instrumentation for analogue and CAN data acquisition.
  • Quality management expertise with familiarity in tools such as 8D, FTA, and root cause analysis methodologies.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities for stakeholder interaction and reporting.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with an orientation toward quality and precision.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to guide a team efficiently while maintaining focus on timely execution and result accuracy.
  • Effective planning, coordination, and organizational competencies to manage complex test cycles and deliverables.

The selected candidate will not be required to travel frequently, contributing primarily from the designated facility.
