Sr Engineer - VCU

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

1. Key Tasks and Deliverables:

  • Design, develop, and test embedded hardware blocks including power supply, analog, digital, mixed signals, and serial communications.
  • Prepare detailed test specifications, plans, and reports aligned with project requirements.
  • Execute verification and validation of hardware in bench and vehicle environments.
  • Conduct environment and electrical tests of automotive ECUs per ISO16750-4 and ISO16750-2 standards.
  • Perform EMC/EMI qualification tests on automotive ECUs following CISPR25, ISO 7637-2, ISO 7637-3, ISO11452-2, ISO10605, and related standards.
  • Manage EMC test setups, load box preparation, and operation of test equipment such as pulse generators, ESD simulators, voltage drop simulators, EMI receivers, and CRO.
  • Lead end-of-line (EOL) and manufacturing test engineering processes throughout new model development from kickoff to launch.
  • Define and implement complete manufacturing test processes including bootloader flashing, ASW flashing, test software flashing, PCBA EOL test, product EOL test, and burn-in tests.
  • Develop functional descriptions for software and hardware modifications and prepare Statements of Requirements (SORs).
  • Utilize automotive diagnostic protocols and ECU communication buses for testing and validation.
  • Prepare and maintain EMC and electrical test documentation and reports.
  • Communicate findings and updates effectively to stakeholders.

2. Critical Must-Have Deliverables:

  • Verified and validated embedded hardware designs meeting automotive standards.
  • Comprehensive test plans and reports for hardware and EMC/EMI testing.
  • Successful execution of automotive ECU environment and electrical tests per ISO standards.
  • Established and documented manufacturing test processes ensuring product quality and reliability.
  • Functional descriptions and SORs for hardware/software modifications.
  • Accurate and timely communication of test results and project status to cross-functional teams.

3. Good-to-Have Deliverables:

  • Optimization recommendations for hardware design and testing processes.
  • Contributions to continuous improvement initiatives in hardware development and testing.
  • Support in cross-functional collaboration with software, manufacturing, and service teams.
  • Development of training materials or knowledge sharing sessions related to hardware testing and validation.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in automotive OEM R&D, Tier 1 suppliers, or automotive electronics hardware design and testing.
  • Proven track record in embedded hardware design, testing, and validation within automotive or related industries.
  • Hands-on experience with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, SPI, I2C) and diagnostic protocols.
  • Experience with EMC/EMI testing and compliance to automotive standards (ISO 16750, CISPR25, ISO 7637, ISO 11452, ISO 10605).
  • Exposure to manufacturing test processes and end-of-line testing in automotive hardware production.

  • Proficiency in embedded hardware design including analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Strong skills in hardware debugging, test plan creation, and execution.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive standards and compliance testing.
  • Expertise in automotive diagnostic and communication protocols. Tools and Techniques Used:
  • Simulation tools: LTspice, OrCAD (proficient level).
  • Flashing and diagnostic tools: Canoe, Vehicle Spy, INCA.
  • Interfaces: Vector, ETAS.
  • EMC/EMI test equipment: pulse generators, ESD simulators, voltage drop simulators, EMI receivers, CRO. Behavioral Competencies:
