Your responsibilities will include the meticulous calibration of crash test dummies according to stringent industry requirements, alongside understanding and executing precise dummy positioning based on specific test protocols.
You will be responsible for maintaining NABL accreditation standards, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and quality norms relevant to dummy calibration. A key part of your role involves guaranteeing the operational uptime of both the dummy calibration laboratory and its equipment, coordinating procurement of necessary spares and consumables for smooth lab running, and addressing any issues proactively with suppliers to ensure timely resolution.
Budget preparation for facility upgrades and adoption of upcoming technologies will also fall under your remit, alongside maintaining accurate and up-to-date calibration records for all instruments and equipment used.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of crash test dummies, including assembly and disassembly procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NABL accreditation processes and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise with tools and equipment relevant to dummy calibration.
- Strong familiarity with safety and quality standards governing crash testing environments.
- Understanding of crash safety regulations and dummy calibration demands unique to the automotive domain.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess either no less than two years' experience in a similar domain if holding a Bachelor of Engineering or Master of Engineering qualification, or a minimum of seven years' relevant experience if holding a Diploma. Experience should encompass hands-on involvement with calibration, testing, or research and development activities related to automotive safety systems, particularly in crash test dummy calibration and crash safety evaluations.
Proven experience interacting with multidisciplinary teams and external test agencies is highly desirable, indicating the candidate’s ability to navigate complex project requirements and maintain stringent quality protocols.
Exposure to working within or closely alongside authoritative testing agencies such as ARAI or ICAT will be considered an advantage, providing valuable insights into compliance and regulatory frameworks essential for this role.
Industry Preferred
The preferred industries for sourcing candidates include:
- Automotive Industry: Specifically roles within Research & Development (R&D), Design, or Calibration departments, where a deep understanding of automotive safety systems and crash testing is developed.
- Testing Agencies: Established organizations such as the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) that specialise in vehicle testing, homologation, and certification in compliance with industry standards.
Candidates with experience from these sectors will possess contextual knowledge of automotive safety requirements, technology implementation, and regulatory adherence, making them well-equipped to succeed in this position.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Diploma or a Bachelor of Engineering degree with a major in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering, which will provide the foundational technical knowledge necessary for this role. This educational background ensures a solid understanding of mechanical systems, vehicle dynamics, and calibration principles essential for managing crash test dummy operations and safety evaluations.
Additional certifications related to quality management systems, laboratory accreditation, or crash safety standards would be advantageous and reflect a commitment to continual professional development.
General Requirements
Successful candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills to effectively interact both within internal teams and with external test agencies. This competency ensures clarity and efficiency in conveying technical information and collaborating on safety testing procedures.
A clear customer focus is essential, highlighting the importance of delivering high-quality calibrated systems that meet or exceed client and regulatory expectations.
The role requires sound decision-making abilities, enabling you to address technical challenges and operational issues promptly while ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Teamwork is crucial in the collaborative environment of product development and crash lab settings, complemented by experience in managing manpower and delegating responsibilities effectively.
Time management skills are necessary to coordinate multiple tasks, maintain equipment uptime, and meet project deadlines without compromising quality.
