Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
Purpose of the Role: As the Manager of Material Management, you will be responsible for overseeing cost management, development, and efficient handling of materials, specifically focusing on Hydraulic systems and Paints. Your role will drive the strategic sourcing and supplier management activities to ensure optimal supply chain performance.
This position provides a unique opportunity to influence cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders across procurement, production, and supply chain teams. You will have significant leadership visibility and ownership of critical strategic initiatives that directly impact organizational success and operational excellence.
Key Deliverables include:
- Managing the end-to-end material management lifecycle for Hydraulic and Paints materials, including procurement, inventory control, and vendor relations.
- Leading supplier development and negotiation processes to ensure best-in-class pricing, quality, and timely delivery while fostering long-term supplier partnerships.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to introduce new aggregates and materials that enhance product performance and reduce costs.
- Overseeing budgeting and cost control activities, aligning with organizational financial goals and tracking cost-saving initiatives.
- Driving process improvements to streamline materials management and adopt best practices in procurement and inventory management.
- Monitoring market trends related to hydraulic fluids, paints, and aggregates to identify innovation opportunities and risks.
Ultimately, your leadership in material management will contribute to Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd's reputation for quality and innovation within the Construction Equipment business unit.
Experience
Professional Experience Required:
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in material management with a specific focus on Hydraulic systems and Paints industries, preferably within a manufacturing or automotive context.
- Demonstrated expertise in supplier management including vendor evaluation, selection, and development for critical material categories.
- Proven track record in contract negotiation securing favourable terms, cost reductions, and delivery performance improvements.
- Hands-on experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost management directly related to materials procurement and supply chain operations.
- Experience in market research and integration of new materials or aggregates to support product development and operational efficiencies.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills applied to procurement and supply chain challenges.
Industry Preferred
The preferred industry background for this role is within the Automotive sector, specifically those experienced in heavy machinery, construction equipment, or comparable manufacturing environments. Candidates who understand the complexities of supply chain management and procurement in sectors dealing with hydraulic systems and paint materials are highly desirable.
Additional experience in related industries such as industrial equipment manufacturing, aerospace, or large-scale mechanical assembly would also be considered beneficial.
Qualifications
Applicants should have the following educational qualifications:
- A Diploma or Bachelor's degree (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Additional certifications or training in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or Materials Management would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of quality management systems, cost analysis, and vendor development methodologies is preferred.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems, procurement software, and data analytics tools is highly desirable.
