Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Lead Engineer - within the Farm Division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the comprehensive homologation process of tractors and their components. Your responsibilities will encompass an in-depth understanding of tractor systems and their compliance with national and international standards including IS, AIS, CMV-Rule, ISO, OECD, ASABE, and EU norms. You will lead the preparation of detailed test specifications, applications, and technical documentation to ensure all products meet stringent regulatory requirements.

Your role will involve meticulous planning and execution of various testing regimes such as CMVR, ICT, batch testing, export homologation, and adherence to EU and ASABE standards. You will engage extensively with renowned test agencies including CFMTTI, ARAI, CIRT, VCA, and TÜV, ensuring seamless coordination and technical interfacing at all stages.

Safety certification of critical components such as mechanical couplings, ROPS, SBA, EMI/EMC, and HVAC systems will be under your purview. Managing the homologation budget effectively, including development costs, test fees, and related expenses, will be essential to your role. You will facilitate plant readiness for Conformity of Production (COP) audits and will support their execution to maintain high compliance standards.

Additionally, you will oversee the review of test reports, provide technical feedback to certification bodies, and lead technical discussions within design teams and project groups. Troubleshooting and resolving issues identified at test centres, maintaining comprehensive records including master files, applications, test data, certificates, and reports will form a critical part of your daily functions. Strong multitasking capabilities, keen interpretation of standards, and excellent communication skills will empower you to excel in this role.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have between 6 to 10 years of progressive experience in the tractor manufacturing or automotive sector, with a deep focus on homologation and compliance testing. Proven experience in coordinating with prominent regulatory and certification agencies will be highly valued, alongside a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Expertise in interpreting and applying standards such as IS, AIS, CMVR, OECD, ASABE, EU/WVTA, and other international regulations is essential. Hands-on experience in witnessing and leading homologation testing processes, coupled with knowledge of safety certifications for tractor components, will be critical to success in this role.

Experience working within cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with design, production, and quality assurance groups, will be advantageous. Candidates who have demonstrated leadership in managing testing programs and regulatory submissions will be well suited to thrive in this role.

Industry Preferred

Experience and knowledge within the tractor manufacturing industry is strongly preferred. Candidates coming from established tractor manufacturers such as John Deere, Sonalika, Escorts, CNH, or those with a background in the broader automobile industry, particularly in off-highway or agricultural machinery sectors, will be particularly attractive.

A thorough understanding of the agricultural equipment segment, including implements and field testing, is beneficial, given its relevance to the regulatory compliance and homologation responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Automobile Engineering to be considered for this role. Educational backgrounds including B.E. or B.Tech are acceptable, with a preference for those specializing in mechanical or agricultural disciplines.

Additional certifications or training related to regulatory compliance standards, homologation procedures, or quality management may be advantageous and support continued professional development in this specialized field.

General Requirements

This role requires regular liaison with various renowned testing agencies such as ARAI, CFMTTI, CIRT, TÜV, and VCA, necessitating polished communication and coordination abilities. Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of tractor testing protocols including PTO, drawbar, and hydraulic systems, with a strong capability to interpret and apply complex standard codes and regulations including IS, AIS, ISO, OECD, EU-WVTA, ASABE, EEC/ECE directives, CMVR rules, and TMA regulations.

The successful applicant will have the proficiency to guide product development teams on evolving statutory requirements and to ensure comprehensive documentation supporting regulatory filings. Fluency in technical writing and excellent communication skills are essential, alongside a proactive, self-driven attitude characterized by strong analytical and problem-solving competencies.

Leadership capabilities, including effective decision-making and team management skills, will be vital. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and have readiness to travel across India as project requirements dictate. Knowledge of local languages such as Hindi or other regional languages will be an asset in ensuring smooth coordination and relationship management.
