Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
Design & Engineering Execution:
- Lead the creation of Master Sections, 3D modeling, and 2D detailing for IP, Airvent, Steering wheel and console components using CATIA V5/3DX.
- Conduct engineering studies (clearance, packaging, fastening strategy, mounting feasibility).
- Support material selection: plastics (ABS, PP, PC+ABS), foams, fabrics, PU, TPO, etc.
- Ensure compliance with ergonomics, safety norms, durability, and performance targets.
Engineering Feasibility:
- Perform feasibility studies for styling surface, including packaging, tooling (injection/compression molding), and assembly, ensuring proper fit, finish, and gap/flush requirements.
- Apply DFMEA principles to ensure first time right design.
- Work with CAE teams to incorporate analysis results into design changes.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for design, build & validation issues using 8D, etc.
Technical Leadership:
- Guide a team of 4-5 designers to meet project timelines, quality standards, and BOM management.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Coordinate with styling, manufacturing, Interface, CAE, and suppliers for design, interface alignment, prototype build, and production trials.
Experience
5 to 10 years of relevant experience in Trims
Industry Preferred
Qualifications
Diploma, Graduate in Mechanical Engineering
General Requirements
- Strong CAD modeling skills.
- Good understanding of automotive IP systems (IP, Airvent, Steering wheel and console components ).
- Working knowledge of safety, NVH, and regulatory requirements.
- Effective problem-solving and coordination ability.
- Good communication skills for cross-functional and supplier interactions.
- Ability to work independently under guidance from Lead/Manager.
