SENIOR ENGINEER- VEHICLE ARCHITECTURE

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As a Senior Engineer in Vehicle Architecture at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will lead the development and integration of vehicle systems for new tractor models. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Generating concept-level layouts and creating design options to meet performance, manufacturability, and customer requirements.
- Conducting in-depth study and finalization of proposal changes to design content ensuring alignment with vehicle performance targets.
- Integrating various vehicle systems to guarantee optimal functionality, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Performing benchmark studies and conducting aggregate-level interface feasibility analysis to consolidate tractor-level data and inform architecture decisions.
- Defining and finalizing vehicle architecture for new introductions, incorporating insights from cross-functional teams including CAE and validation groups.
- Ensuring strict adherence to vehicle regulations and quality standards throughout the design process.
- Expertly performing Digital Mock-Up (DMU) checks, generating detailed aggregate and vehicle-level reporting for project tracking and decision making.
- Managing configuration changes diligently, maintaining up-to-date Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) and CAD layouts to reflect design evolution.
- Driving Vehicle Level specification tasks and EBOM releases with precision and timeliness.
- Conducting thorough vehicle level Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to proactively identify and mitigate risks affecting design robustness.
- Resolving operational readiness concerns (ORCs) efficiently during prototype builds and plant assembly phases, ensuring smooth production transitions.
- Demonstrating expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Service (DFS), and understanding physical vehicle assembly processes and tooling.
- Collaborating closely with CAE analysts and validation engineers to finalize design details, incorporating simulation and testing feedback.
- Exercising sound judgment and autonomy to manage complex, multifaceted projects under high-pressure environments while maintaining teamwork and communication.
This role demands meticulous attention to technical detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to vehicle design challenges, contributing significantly to Mahindra & Mahindra's reputation for excellence in farm machinery.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess between 4 to 6 years of progressive engineering experience within the tractor industry, with proven expertise in designing and integrating Off-Season (OS) and cabin tractors tailored to export and European markets.
- Experience working with international standards and regulations governing tractor design and safety.
- Demonstrated expertise in vehicle system integration, packaging layouts, and architecture development specific to agricultural machinery.
- Proficiency in managing the full product development lifecycle from conceptualization through to plant assembly readiness.
- Hands-on experience in use of engineering software tools for CAD, DMU, and EBOM management.
- Strong background in conducting and interpreting benchmark studies and vehicle performance assessments.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and engage effectively with validation, CAE, and manufacturing units.
- Prior exposure to resolving ORCs and managing product releases in a complex manufacturing environment.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in high-volume production settings and those familiar with the unique demands of tractor design for export markets.
Industry Preferred
Experience within the Tractor Business is highly preferred for this role. Candidates coming from sectors specializing in agricultural machinery design, especially those involved in developing tractors for domestic and export markets such as Europe, will find this position aligns well with their background.
Industry familiarity with OEMs or suppliers engaged in design, development, and manufacturing of farm equipment will provide a significant advantage.
Qualifications
A minimum qualification of Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or Farm Machinery Engineering is required for this position.
Candidates with advanced certifications or further training related to vehicle dynamics, systems integration, design for manufacturing, or quality assurance will be considered favourably.
Strong foundational knowledge in automotive principles, manufacturing processes, vehicle safety standards, and system architecture is essential to succeed in this role.
