Senior Engineer ELV

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the International Materials Data System (IMDS) focusing on hazardous chemical data collection and identification within automotive components, ensuring accurate ELV (End-of-Life Vehicle) and RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) calculations.
  • Deeply understand and apply ELV regulations including parts marking, restrictions on hazardous substances, and compliance requirements specific to automotive manufacturing.
  • Guide the implementation of European automotive directives such as ELV, RoHS, REACH, and contribute to ongoing material analysis ensuring sustainability and regulatory adherence.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hazardous material and recycling regulations, collaborating closely with Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) and homologation teams to ensure compliance.
  • Engage actively with suppliers to communicate and enforce M&M Ltd.’s Material Data Compliance procedures, supporting materials compliance throughout the supply chain.
  • Develop and release internal company standards and procedures focused on ELV compliance and other relevant environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and analyse trends, amendments, and future requirements related to recycling and hazardous materials, ensuring proactive adaptation of compliance measures.
  • Support the Compliance Manager in managing the compliance data lifecycle with a focus on accuracy, completeness and audit readiness.
  • Track compliance status regularly for Mahindra & Mahindra export vehicles, ensuring all regulatory requirements for export markets are consistently met.
  • Contribute to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), material circularity initiatives, and sustainability projects aimed at reducing environmental impact.
  • Ensure compliance with global export regulatory frameworks concerning End-of-Life Vehicles, understanding directives deeply and their periodic amendments.
  • Possess foundational skills in programming and algorithmic thinking to support data analysis and process automation where applicable.
  • Demonstrate robust knowledge of material grades, their chemical compositions, and related declarations through IMDS and foundational understanding of IDIS systems.
  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams to align material compliance objectives with overall product development and regulatory strategy.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have between 2 to 4 years of focused experience in developing and implementing compliance procedures specifically aligned to automotive ELV regulations. Experience coordinating closely with regulatory bodies such as CMVR and homologation departments is essential to ensure vehicle compliance standards are met. The role demands cross-functional teamwork across platforms and functional units to successfully deliver on compliance objectives. Prior exposure to material data systems like IMDS and familiarity with automotive supply chains will be highly advantageous. Candidates should also demonstrate a practical understanding of environmental legislation related to automotive manufacturing and export requirements.

Industry Preferred

Experience within the automotive industry is strongly preferred, given the specialized nature of ELV and hazardous material regulations applicable to vehicle manufacturing. Candidates from sectors involved in vehicle component manufacturing, automotive materials technology, or regulatory compliance management will find this role aligned with their background. Familiarity with European, Indian, and international automotive regulations, along with collaboration with homologation teams, is particularly valuable. The automotive industry’s drive for sustainability and regulatory compliance makes this role critical to ongoing product development and export success.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, or equivalent technical disciplines. Academic qualifications must provide a strong foundation in materials science, chemical properties of polymers, and environmental regulations applicable to automotive materials. Additional certifications or coursework related to compliance, environmental standards (ELV, RoHS, REACH), or materials data management systems such as IMDS would be considered significant advantages.
