Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As a Senior Engineer in NVH at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, your key responsibilities will encompass a comprehensive range of activities focused on noise, vibration, and harshness management within automotive systems. You will apply detailed expertise in identifying and analysing motorized noises and Body Squeak and Rattle (BSR) phenomena to enhance vehicle quality. Your role will involve:
- Conducting sophisticated vehicle system evaluations on BSR tracks, leveraging component-level shaker testing to isolate and identify noise sources.
- Utilising Quasi-static and Solidity testing techniques for the subjective identification and precise localization of BSR noises.
- Setting up detailed vibration and noise measurement apparatus, performing data acquisition, and comprehensive post-processing for activities such as RLDA (Relative Level Driving Analysis), relative motion assessments, and general NVH measurements.
- Designing and fabricating specialized fixtures for component-level BSR shaker testing focused on critical vehicle areas including cockpits, doors, and seats.
- Executing in-field noise diagnostics within vehicle interiors and liaising with cross-functional teams to communicate findings and drive corrective actions.
- Applying advanced acoustic holography techniques to map noise-prone zones, producing detailed analytical reports to guide engineering decisions.
- Demonstrating in-depth knowledge of squeak and rattle causation, occurrence, and mitigation strategies.
- Possessing foundational understanding of automotive systems such as trims, body-in-white (BIW), and glass seal mechanisms, including various design types, manufacturing and assembly processes, and material characteristics.
- Analyzing sound quality contributions from diverse motorized sources including actuators, small fans, and similar components to support holistic NVH performance improvement.
In this capacity, you will collaborate closely with product development teams across engineering disciplines to ensure integration of NVH improvements aligns with vehicle performance, durability, and customer satisfaction goals.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have between 4 to 6 years of focused experience in NVH testing, particularly within the BSR domain. Proven expertise in utilising industry-standard testing software suites including LMS Siemens, Head Acoustics, and BSR Suite by MB Dynamics is essential. This experience should encompass fixture design and a solid grasp of fundamental NVH and BSR principles.
Additional technical competencies include proficiency in non-stationary signal analysis and advanced signal processing techniques such as Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and acoustic holography. Demonstrated ability to handle complex data sets and derive actionable insights will be critical to success.
Experience gained in automotive environments where adherence to rigorous industry protocols and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams were required will be highly beneficial. Prior exposure to component-level and full-vehicle NVH testing campaigns will strengthen candidate suitability for this role.
Industry Preferred
We prefer candidates with backgrounds in established automotive manufacturing companies, where stringent adherence to quality standards and NVH regulations is the norm. Experience at firms known for pioneering NVH technologies and innovation will be considered a strong advantage.
This preference stems from the value of familiarity with automotive industry standards, compliance expectations, product development cycles, and collaborative engineering environments. Such candidates typically demonstrate an ability to navigate complex challenges and contribute effectively to high-calibre automotive projects.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a graduate or postgraduate degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline. Advanced certifications or specialized courses focusing on NVH testing methodologies, automotive noise control engineering, or relevant areas will be significant assets.
Continuous professional growth is encouraged, and participation in workshops, seminars or industry forums related to automotive advances, NVH trends, or acoustic analysis will be viewed positively. Emphasis is placed on candidates committed to expanding their technical repertoire and staying abreast of emerging technologies and practices.
General Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling clear explanation of technical concepts to diverse stakeholders including engineers, management, and suppliers.
- A collaborative and inclusive work approach, valuing teamwork, open dialogue, and knowledge sharing across disciplines to drive optimal project outcomes.
- Demonstrated dedication to continuous learning and adaptability in a fast-evolving engineering landscape, with a proactive stance towards professional development.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of multi-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
