Sr Lead Engineer - Methods
Chennai, Chennai-MRV-AD, IN
Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
- The Lead Engineer - Methods Development will be responsible for spearheading advanced simulation and modelling techniques that support product innovation and vehicle system performance within Mahindra & Mahindra's Automotive Division.
- This role demands a comprehensive application of expertise in engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, dynamics, vibrations, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and structural analysis.
- Key deliverables involve developing and applying mathematical models and physics-based simulations to predict real-world performance and enhance design accuracy.
- The role requires hands-on proficiency with industry-standard software such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Simcenter AMESim, GT-SUITE, MATLAB/Simulink, alongside scripting in Python and MATLAB to automate and optimise simulation workflows.
- The incumbent will lead initiatives in Reduced Order Modelling (ROM) and model simplification to facilitate faster computational analysis without compromising fidelity, promoting efficiency in product development cycles. A strong foundation in Design of Experiments (DOE), optimisation strategies, sensitivity analysis, and statistical methods is essential to validate and refine models through data-driven approaches.
- Integration and correlation of simulation models with CAE and physical test data will form a critical part of responsibilities, ensuring high confidence in predictions. The role will also encompass leadership in vehicle system modelling, full vehicle simulation, and attribute development, applying finite element analysis and multiphysics simulation methodologies where relevant.
- Technical leadership extends to mentoring junior engineers, conducting technical reviews, and standardising methods to build a cohesive and high-performing simulation team. Collaboration across design, CAE, testing, and supplier teams will be instrumental for aligning objectives and delivering impactful outcomes.
- Effective stakeholder management, project planning, prioritisation, and timely execution form the backbone of successful delivery in this role.
Experience
Applicants should possess a graduate or postgraduate degree in engineering disciplines, reflecting a robust foundation in mathematical modelling, physics-based simulation, or model-based simulation techniques. Ideally, candidates will bring between 10 to 12 years of substantive experience in these areas, demonstrating growth and impact through progressive responsibilities.
Proven expertise in leading multi-disciplinary teams and facilitating technical reviews is vital, ensuring methodologies remain cutting-edge and adhere to best practices. Experience in standardising simulation approaches and promoting cross-functional knowledge sharing enhances team capability and efficiency.
Demonstrated ability to mentor emerging talent and provide strategic guidance aligns with the leadership component of this position. Hands-on exposure to full vehicle simulation projects and the application of optimisation and statistical analysis within automotive contexts will be highly regarded.
Industry Preferred
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience within the automotive sector, auto ancillaries, or engineering services industries, where advanced simulation and system modelling are integral to product development. Familiarity with the challenges and regulatory requirements in these industries enhances the relevance and applicability of candidate expertise.
Prior exposure to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or Tier 1 suppliers can provide valuable insights into vehicle system behaviour and integration, contributing to accelerated learning and impactful contribution upon joining Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
Qualifications
The role requires a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in relevant engineering disciplines, with a preference towards mechanical, automotive, aerospace or related fields. A Master of Engineering (M.E.) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) qualification is advantageous, indicating advanced technical proficiency and research-oriented skills applicable to simulation and modelling.
Candidates with additional certifications or training in numerical methods, computational mechanics, or software tools such as COMSOL, MATLAB, and Simcenter AMESim will have a distinguishing edge.
General Requirements
| The successful candidate must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to address complex engineering challenges with innovative simulation solutions. A proven ability to develop new simulation methodologies and enhance existing processes will be essential to driving continuous improvement. Expertise in full vehicle attribute development and cascading of targets will support cross-functional alignment with product goals. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a track record of leading cross-functional teams will foster a collaborative working environment. Superior communication skills coupled with effective technical mentoring abilities will facilitate knowledge transfer and team growth. |
