Sr. Engineer - Engines FD

Date:  11 Feb 2026
Location:

Chennai, Chennai-MRV(FD), IN

Company:  Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Senior Engineer within our Engines and Farm Division, you will play a pivotal role in the diesel engine calibration process to ensure compliance with stringent performance, emission, drivability, and noise standards. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and executing engine calibration for diesel engines to meet performance and emission targets efficiently and reliably across different operating conditions.
  • Conducting vehicle-level calibration to optimise drivability and minimize noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in line with customer expectations.
  • Designing and implementing sophisticated Design of Experiments (DoE) to systematically evaluate calibration parameters and achieve optimal results.
  • Specialising in Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) calibration, including both passive and active regeneration strategies, and pioneering soot and delta pressure modelling for enhanced aftertreatment system efficiency.
  • Utilising advanced data evaluation tools such as AVL Concerto and CAMEO to analyse calibration data, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Applying deep knowledge of Diesel System Management (DSM), Non-Conformance Detection (NCD), and Post Combustion Diagnostics (PCD) specifically for BS-V and Tier 4 emission-compliant engine models.
  • Supporting engine level Common Rail System (CRS) calibration efforts, focusing on the performance and emission nexus.
  • Participating collaboratively in base engine combustion development, driving continuous improvements in diesel engine technology.
  • Maintaining strong familiarity with current emission norms and aftertreatment system calibration to meet evolving environmental standards globally.

This position requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to manage complex calibration projects from conception through execution, and fostering cross-functional collaboration with engineering, testing, and quality teams to support product development excellence.

Experience

The ideal candidate will bring 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in diesel engine calibration and development within automotive or off-highway engine segments. Extensive expertise in calibration tools such as INCA and AVL Concerto is essential. Proven experience with emission control systems, diesel particulate filters, and advanced engine management systems will be highly valued.

Exposure to regulatory frameworks, emission certification processes, and practical knowledge in experimental design methodologies are key assets. Prior work in both engine and vehicle level calibration contexts, combined with a strong analytical mindset and problem-solving capabilities, will pave the way to success in this role.

Experience in base engine combustion development, emission norms adherence, and aftertreatment system calibration further strengthens candidacy. We encourage candidates demonstrating leadership potential, excellent communication skills, and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic development environment.

Industry Preferred

This role is ideally suited for professionals with backgrounds in the automotive industry, engine manufacturers, or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) focused on off-highway engines and farm equipment. Experience within Field Installed Equipment (FIE) suppliers or design consultancies specialising in powertrain and emissions development, such as AVL, Bosch, or similar, will be advantageous.

Candidates recruiting from sectors engaged in commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery, and heavy-duty diesel engine development will find alignment with the challenges and technologies pertinent to this position.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Advanced technical education and certifications related to engine calibration, emissions control technologies, or automotive electronics will be beneficial.

Preference will be given to candidates with documented training or experience in calibration software tools, emission regulation standards, and design of experiments (DoE) methodologies. Comprehensive understanding of engine combustion principles and aftertreatment systems is essential to excel in this role.

General Requirements

We seek professionals who are passionately committed to quality, continuous learning, and innovation. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical skills, exemplary teamwork capabilities, and excellent communication, enabling effective collaboration across development, testing, and homologation functions.

Adaptability to evolving technologies and regulations, combined with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a keen attention to detail, are vital attributes. The role requires an individual capable of managing complex technical projects independently while contributing to cross-functional goals.

No travel is required for this position; however, flexibility in working hours may be expected to meet project deadlines and coordinate testing activities.
