Sr. Engineer - Engines FD
Chennai, Chennai-MRV(FD), IN
Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As a Senior Engineer within our Engines Farm Division, you will spearhead the design and development of critical powertrain components, including crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons, camshafts, tappets, valves, valve springs, belt drives, brackets, and pulleys. Your role will encompass detailed design calculations for powertrain, valvetrain, and structural components such as crankcases and cylinder heads, ensuring optimal performance and durability.
You will leverage your expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), UG NX for 3D CAD modelling, and Teamcenter for drawing release and configuration management to deliver precise engineering documentation. A deep understanding of manufacturing processes covering castings, sheet metal work, and forging will be key to bridging design intent with seamless manufacturability.
Responsibilities extend to collaboration with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, quality, and testing to validate component performance while adhering to timelines and cost constraints. You will also play a pivotal role in supporting engine assembly processes and implementing engineering change notices (ECN) within Teamcenter, ensuring continuous improvement of designs and production methodologies.
In addition, you will be expected to contribute to innovation in exhaust after-treatment design and support the integration of advanced powertrain technologies suited for off-highway engines and agricultural machinery.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in powertrain and valvetrain design within the automotive or related sectors, with demonstrable success in delivering complex engineering projects from concept through production.
Experience working with design tools such as UG NX or equivalent CAD systems, alongside proficiency in Teamcenter for product lifecycle management, is essential. Candidates should have a solid grasp of GD&T standards and practical insights into manufacturing processes like casting, forging, and sheet metal fabrication.
Familiarity with exhaust after-treatment systems design and engine assembly processes will be highly advantageous, aligning with our commitment to developing advanced powertrain solutions. Proven capability to interpret and apply design calculations and engineering standards to improve component functionality and reliability is required.
Industry Preferred
We favour candidates with a background within the automobile industry, including OEMs and key tier 1 suppliers specializing in farm machinery and off-highway engines. Experience gained in companies known for powertrain development such as AVL, Bosch, as well as established engine manufacturers and design consultancies, will be particularly valuable.
Previous roles within sectors focused on commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, and specialty engine applications will give candidates a competitive edge. Insight into diverse manufacturing environments that handle castings, forgings, and precision component assembly is desirable to match the multifaceted nature of our product development.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related fields.
A degree from a recognised institution demonstrating strong fundamentals in mechanics, materials science, and thermodynamics is expected. Postgraduate qualifications or certifications strengthening professional engineering skills, CAD proficiency, or project management expertise would be an asset.
Continuous professional development and a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies in engine design and manufacturing processes will be considered favourably.
General Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engine exhaust after-treatment design principles to support emissions compliance and performance optimisation.
Strong proficiency in Teamcenter software for drawing release, document control, and engineering change management is essential to maintain design integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
An understanding of engine assembly processes is required to ensure designs are practical and supportability is maximised. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills to effectively work within multidisciplinary teams.
