Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As the Deputy Manager - Maintenance within our Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal functioning and reliability of manufacturing equipment. Your responsibilities will include the proficient application of Analytical QC Tools and adherence to standards such as ISO to drive quality improvements. You will lead initiatives such as Kaizens and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to enhance operational efficiency and implement robust problem-solving methodologies including QC Story, MFMEA, CBM, TBM, and comprehensive Root Cause Analysis.

Key duties encompass troubleshooting and repairing Mechanical Power Presses and EOT cranes, alongside maintaining Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems integral to press operations. Precision checks such as verifying and correcting the parallelism and perpendicularity of presses will be a regular task to uphold production standards.

Maintaining compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and legal requirements within your scope is essential. You will oversee preventive maintenance regimes, monitor uptime metrics (P.M. Uptime, MTTR, MTBF) for Tryout and Spotting Presses as well as CNC Machines, ensuring minimised downtime and maximised productivity.

Your role extends to controlling and monitoring maintenance activities of utilities like Overhead Cranes, DG Sets, Compressors, and Forklifts. Active planning and management of spare parts inventory will be crucial to avoid production interruptions.

Additionally, you will champion the implementation and continual improvement of TPM PM Pillar activities, fostering a culture of Total Productive Maintenance across teams. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop maintenance strategies aligned with business goals and sustainability principles.

  • Lead root cause investigations and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence of equipment failures.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance schedules and records to facilitate effective reporting and decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.
  • Develop and mentor maintenance teams to build technical expertise and ensure safety compliance.

General Experience

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience ranging from 5 to 11 years in maintenance roles within engineering-intensive, high-precision manufacturing environments, preferably in the automotive, engine, or broader engineering sectors. This experience should demonstrate progressive responsibility in maintaining complex machinery, including CNC machines, mechanical presses, and heavy lifting equipment like EOT cranes.

Expertise in implementing and managing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programs and familiarity with failure analysis methods such as Machinery Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (MFMEA) is essential. Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to workplace safety and environmental standards will also be critical.

Experience should include hands-on troubleshooting of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mechanical maintenance skills, and working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques. Proven ability to lead maintenance teams, manage spare parts inventory, and coordinate with cross-functional departments will contribute to efficient operations.

Exposure to quality management standards such as ISO 9000, ISO/TS 16949, and occupational health and safety standards like OHSAS 18001 will benefit the candidate in aligning maintenance activities with broader organisational compliance and sustainability objectives.

  • 5 to 7 years for mid-level candidates or 8 to 11 years for senior-level experience in maintenance within engineering or automotive manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated skills in root cause analysis, problem-solving, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing maintenance of diverse equipment: CNC machines, hydraulic/pneumatic presses, cranes, and utility machinery.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively collaborate with vendors, production teams, and regulatory bodies.
