Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
Powertrain Strategy & Portfolio Planning
- Define and execute cross‑carline powertrain strategy aligned with long‑term business and product objectives.
- Plan and optimize full range of powertrain portfolios, from ICE to EV, across PV and CV segments.
- Translate regulatory, customer, and competitive insights into Powertrain / Drivetrain targets and roadmap decisions.
- Define powertrain and vehicle level targets for upcoming vehicles to enable product leadership across segments.
Regulations & Compliance (Domestic & International)
- Interpret current and upcoming domestic powertrain regulations (BS x, CAFE, RDE, E20) and international regulations (Euro 6/7, WLTP, EPA, China VI) to support export & future readiness.
- Convert regulatory requirements into certification timelines and powertrain readiness inputs.
Powertrain Architecture & Trade-offs
- Evaluate and recommend powertrain architectures considering technical feasibility, cost, performance.
- Assess vehicle‑level impacts on CO₂, fuel efficiency, range, NVH, thermal performance, and packaging.
- Drive trade‑off decisions across propulsion technologies using structured analyses.
Benchmarking & Data-driven Planning
- Benchmark domestic and global OEM powertrain strategies to ensure competitive positioning.
- Derive inputs from regulations, benchmarking, market data, to guide portfolio decisions.
- Incorporate customer usage patterns into early powertrain targets and planning assumptions.
- Partner with product planning and business teams to support business case development and recommend appropriate powertrain solutions aligned with cost, performance, efficiency, and regulatory targets.
- Work closely with R&D, Powertrain Engineering, Calibration, Thermal, Manufacturing, and Homologation teams to ensure alignment on powertrain strategy and execution feasibility.
- Act as a key interface between engineering, sourcing, and suppliers for engines, transmissions, motors, batteries, and related powertrain systems and subsystems.
- Engage with Supplier Sourcing and CDMM teams to evaluate technology options, cost implications, and localization strategies.
- Communicate clear, data‑backed recommendations to senior leadership through structured analyses and presentations.
- Influence cross‑functional decision‑making and foster alignment without direct authority, ensuring timely and effective implementation of powertrain strategies.
Experience
Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
Industry Preferred
Automobile or similar large Manufacturing setup (Preferred)
Qualifications
Master of Technology (MTech) or Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical, Automotive Engineering
General Requirements
- Strong understanding of powertrain fundamentals, including:

- ICE architectures (petrol and diesel) and their performance, efficiency, and emission trade offs
- Alternate powertrain systems and associated energy management concepts
- Electric powertrains, including motor, inverter, and battery fundamentals
- Working knowledge of powertrain performance and efficiency metrics, such as fuel efficiency, CO₂ emissions, driving range, thermal performance, NVH, and durability considerations.
- Familiarity with powertrain emission regulations, test cycles, and certification requirements, with understanding of their impact on powertrain design, calibration, and vehicle application.
- Understanding of vehicle level powertrain integration aspects, including packaging constraints, thermal interfaces, drivability, and manufacturing feasibility.
