Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
Develop and Implement M&M’s ESG Strategy:
• Strategy Alignment and Prioritization: Ensure the sustainability strategy aligns with Mahindra’s Plant Positive Commitments and overall mission, while identifying key sustainability areas (e.g., energy efficiency, waste reduction).
• Actionable Plans and Execution: Develop and execute detailed plans with specific actions, timelines, and responsibilities.
• Emerging Trends: Stay informed about best practices, technologies, and regulations in sustainability, benchmark against industry standards, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• To suggest and implement a comprehensive Human Rights Policy after benchmarking with industry standards.
Conduct Regular Assessments and Analysis:
• Performance Metrics: Develop and track metrics to assess sustainability performance.
• Reporting: Prepare regular reports detailing performance, progress towards goals, and areas for improvement.
• Recommendations: Provide actionable recommendations based on assessments to enhance sustainability practices.
Collaboration with External Organizations:
• Identify & manage memberships with relevant organizations (e.g., WBCSD, GRI) and external agencies.
• Develop relationships with think tanks, industry bodies, and peer organizations in consultation with SMEs, businesses and CSO.
• Managing relationships such as with the FICCI Centre of Circularity or Centre for Sustainability/Water Excellence/Safety Excellence, etc to work on various projects.
• Identify long term & short term collaboration opportunities & tools (related to water, carbon, nature) to advance Mahindra’s sustainability agenda.
Manage outreach and Stakeholder engagement:
• Enhance ESG dialogue and ratings in partnership with the Investor Relations team.
• Sustainability reporting for a business including internal/external audits.
• Integrate sustainability aspects into consumer engagement and product stewardship in collaboration with marketing teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into operations, provide training and support, and facilitate open communication to address related challenges and opportunities.
Sustainability Communication and Branding Strategy:
• Communicate the Mahindra’s sustainability efforts to enhance its reputation.
• Develop and execute media campaigns, manage, and update the Sustainability page on Mahindra’s website and curating & overseeing content across social media channels.
• Promote sustainability internally through newsletters, mailers, and the sustainability microsite.
• Develop white papers, media articles, policies to influence sustainability regulation with SMEs, business units and the Group CSO.
• Identify and apply for relevant awards to highlight Mahindra’s sustainability achievements.
Education Qualification
Any relevant degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field or relevant certifications (e.g., LEED, CSR, ESG) is preferred.
General Experience
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in sustainability strategy
Critical Experience
- Very high levels of initiative, self-drive and achievement orientation – strong deadline closure focus
- Ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and influence diverse range of stakeholders
- Strong understanding of ESG frameworks, stakeholder engagement strategies, and industry best practices.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals.
