Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As the Deputy General Manager within the Partnerships & Alliances unit at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth through strategic mergers and acquisitions. This leadership role requires you to spearhead the entire M&A process—from identifying potential acquisition targets to deal closure—while ensuring alignment with the organisation’s long-term business objectives. Collaborating closely with the senior leadership team, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing opportunities that enhance shareholder value and market positioning.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement comprehensive M&A strategies aligned with corporate growth plans.
  • Conduct thorough identification and rigorous evaluation of acquisition opportunities, strategic partnerships, and potential divestitures, ensuring sound strategic fit.
  • Lead all aspects of the deal lifecycle, including developing detailed financial models, performing valuations, leading due diligence efforts, negotiating terms, and managing closing procedures.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams spanning strategy, finance, legal, HR, and operations to facilitate smooth transaction execution and integration.
  • Deliver insightful strategic recommendations and comprehensive analyses to the executive leadership to inform decision-making processes.
  • Maintain and nurture strong relationships with external advisors such as investment banks, consultants, and legal counsel to ensure access to industry expertise and deal support.
  • Monitor market trends and competitive landscapes continually to uncover emerging opportunities and anticipate sector shifts.
  • Support wider corporate development initiatives including joint ventures, strategic investments, and alliances beyond traditional M&A.

You will be expected to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, demonstrating exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and effective stakeholder management. This role requires a proactive approach, meticulous attention to detail, and a strong commercial acumen to drive successful outcomes in a dynamic business environment.

Experience

Candidates should have between  7  to 10 years of progressive experience in corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, or private equity. Proven expertise in deal origination, comprehensive due diligence, complex financial modelling, and cross-functional deal execution is essential.

Experience within large corporations, strategic advisory firms, or financial institutions where you have led or significantly contributed to high-value transactions is highly desirable. Familiarity with negotiations involving multiple stakeholders and complex regulatory environments will be advantageous.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence senior leadership, coupled with a reputation for integrity and discretion in handling sensitive business information, are critical for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related disciplines is required.
  • Advanced qualifications such as an MBA, CFA, or equivalent professional certification are highly preferred, reflecting deep financial and strategic expertise.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in advanced financial modelling, valuation techniques, and data analysis tools.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of corporate finance principles, accounting standards, and relevant legal frameworks pertaining to M&A transactions.

General Requirements

  • A proven track record managing all stages of the M&A process, from sourcing and evaluation through to due diligence and successful integration.
  • Superior skills in financial modelling, valuation, and delivering insightful strategic analysis to support complex decision-making.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities enabling clear articulation of complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional leadership qualities and project management expertise with experience leading multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams.
  • Capability to excel in a fast-paced and evolving environment, demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
  • In-depth understanding of industry dynamics and competitive forces affecting strategic growth initiatives.
