1. Comprehensive Contract Management
You will be responsible for the end-to-end handling of commercial contracts, encompassing drafting, review, negotiation, execution, and ongoing management. This role focuses on non-litigation legal matters, ensuring contracts align with both local and international legal standards while mitigating risk to the organisation.
The position demands a thorough understanding of commercial agreements, with an ability to apply legal knowledge practically to support business objectives.
2. Expertise in Legal Negotiations and Advisory
The role requires demonstrated proficiency in contract negotiation and the provision of sound legal advice to business stakeholders. You will be expected to counsel internal teams on legal risks, compliance issues and contract performance considerations, ensuring an effective balance between commercial interests and legal safeguards.
Strong negotiation skills paired with commercial acumen are essential to achieving beneficial outcomes while preserving long-term business relationships.
3. Global Legal Knowledge and Regulatory Awareness
A sound understanding of international legal frameworks including global sanctions, export control regulations, and cross-border compliance obligations is critical. Your role includes keeping abreast of evolving regulations impacting the manufacturing industry and embedding compliance protocols into daily operations.
This broad perspective will enable you to anticipate legal challenges and support the organisation’s global business operations effectively.
Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As Manager-Group Legal, you will serve as a trusted in-house legal advisor, delivering comprehensive, timely, and strategic legal services to various business units within Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
- Collaborative Engagement: Actively engage with cross-functional business teams to identify legal risks, provide guidance, and co-develop practical solutions that facilitate business growth while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Process Enhancement: Lead initiatives to introduce and monitor best practices such as contract standardisation, deployment of templates, and the establishment of robust risk management frameworks across divisions.
- Legal Awareness: Develop and conduct educational workshops and awareness sessions aimed at enhancing business teams’ understanding of legal obligations and contractual best practices.
- Contractual Excellence: Take ownership of contract drafting, review, risk assessment, negotiation, and execution. Provide authoritative legal advice regarding potential contractual conflicts and undertake dispute resolution efforts to minimise organisational exposure.
- Leadership in Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve contractual disputes and contentious matters swiftly and effectively, liaising with external counsel where necessary to safeguard the company’s interests.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update company policies and contract guidelines to keep pace with evolving legal standards and business needs, ensuring legal frameworks remain fit for purpose.
Experience
Ideal candidates will have between 6 to 8 years of relevant professional experience, with a significant portion spent in legal roles focused on contract management, corporate compliance, and commercial law.
Experience within multinational companies or organisations with substantial cross-border operations is highly valued, reflecting your ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and diverse legal systems.
Proven negotiation experience and a track record of successfully handling commercial contracts and mitigating legal risks in a manufacturing or industrial environment will distinguish you as a strong fit for this role.
Industry Preferred
The preferred industry background is in manufacturing, particularly within sectors that operate domestically and internationally. This experience ensures familiarity with the specific contractual and regulatory challenges faced by manufacturing enterprises.
Experience in industries with similar commercial dynamics or regulatory frameworks, such as automotive, engineering, or industrial goods production, will also be considered advantageous.
Qualifications
The candidate must be a qualified legal professional holding an LLB degree, complemented by an LLM or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Membership in accredited legal bodies or bar associations will be considered an asset, alongside ongoing commitment to professional development and legal education.
Strong legal drafting skills, combined with the ability to comprehend and interpret legislative changes affecting commercial contracts, are essential qualifications.

- Exceptional legal drafting and negotiation skills, particularly concerning complex contracts and strategic dispute management.
- Demonstrated experience working within cross-border legal environments, with familiarity in international commercial contracts and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in assessing contractual risk and preparing detailed risk analyses and mitigation strategies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable international sanctions frameworks and export control regulations relevant to the manufacturing sector.
