Deputy Manager - Process Transmission

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Deputy Manager - Process Transmission at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will be entrusted with a comprehensive set of responsibilities aimed at enhancing product quality, optimizing manufacturing processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Your key deliverables will include:

  • Quality Assurance: Lead the development and integration of quality at every stage of the manufacturing process using methodologies such as PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), mistake-proofing techniques, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Ensure effective resolution of critical and chronic quality issues to maintain First Time Right (FTR), Every Time Right (ETR), and Defect Clean Environment (DCE) standards.
  • Process Planning and Production Support: Facilitate process planning for modifications in existing products including Change Request Evaluation (CRE) and support the productionization of new products. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless manufacturing transitions and adherence to production timelines.
  • Capex Budgeting and Implementation: Manage capital expenditure budgeting focused on enhancing Production Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety (PQCDS). This includes planning equipment replacement or addition employing the most appropriate and advanced technologies. Oversee the full lifecycle of Capex projects from identifying needs, recommending solutions, managing procurement to commissioning, and achieving Method of Procedure (MOP) targets.
  • Productivity and Lean Manufacturing: Drive manpower optimization and capacity enhancement strategies to improve operational efficiency. Champion lean manufacturing principles by reducing lead times, improving Value Added Ratio (VAR), and implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives. Identify and execute productivity improvement initiatives to sustain competitive manufacturing performance.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of innovation by promoting problem-solving practices and continuous improvement methodologies within the team. Lead Total Quality Management (TQM) efforts to ensure strict adherence to quality systems including Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), process mapping, control plan development, and standard operating procedure (SOP) formulation.
  • Cost Efficiency: Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities through targeted improvement projects, ensuring tangible impact on overall manufacturing expenses while maintaining or enhancing quality benchmarks.

This role requires a proactive approach, strong collaboration with various stakeholders, and a commitment to achieving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational foundation obtained through a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. This academic background should provide a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, materials science, mechanical systems, and production technologies.

Technical coursework and knowledge related to quality assurance, process engineering, lean manufacturing, and capital investments will be advantageous. Additionally, candidates who have pursued professional development courses or certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Project Management will find themselves well-positioned to excel in this role.

General Experience

We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in manufacturing environments, ideally with a total of 5 to 8 years working within production or process engineering domains. Within this timeframe, candidates should have accrued at least 3 to 4 years of focused experience in process engineering or manufacturing engineering roles, demonstrating hands-on expertise in optimizing manufacturing workflows, quality systems, and efficiency improvement initiatives.

Previous experience should encompass involvement in quality assurance methodologies, process planning, equipment installation and commissioning, Capex project management, and lean manufacturing initiatives. Exposure to multi-disciplinary teams and cross-functional collaboration within complex manufacturing settings will be highly beneficial.

Experience working in automotive, heavy machinery, or related manufacturing sectors aligns well with the company’s focus and will better prepare candidates for the challenges and expectations of the Deputy Manager role.

Critical Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate critical experience in several core areas essential to the transmission department's manufacturing excellence.

  • Quality Systems Expertise: Proven ability to implement and uphold quality systems such as PFMEA, SPC, CAPA, and TQM frameworks to drive defect reduction and achieve stringent quality standards.
  • Process Engineering & Product Lifecycle Management: Experience managing process changes for existing products and supporting the introduction and stabilization of new products in production.
  • Capital Expenditure Projects: Hands-on experience in Capex planning and execution, including technical evaluation, budgeting, equipment commissioning, and performance validation aligned to business objectives.
  • Lean Manufacturing & Productivity Improvements: Demonstrable success leading lean manufacturing transformations, manpower optimization efforts, and capacity enhancement projects that deliver measurable increases in operational efficiency.
  • Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Expertise in driving innovative problem-solving approaches, leading cross-functional teams through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement workflows.
  • Stakeholder Management & Leadership: Ability to effectively engage with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and leadership, fostering collaboration and accountability to meet project milestones and operational goals.
