Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As an Assistant Manager - CDMM at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in the development and successful delivery of new engine and genset projects, focusing on components such as rubber hoses, silicon hoses, exhaust systems, silencers, tail pipes, exhaust manifolds, and stub pipes. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure First Time Right and consistently on-time delivery through effective part development processes that balance Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Development (QCDD).

You will act as a key liaison between suppliers and internal teams, demonstrating strong influence and negotiation capabilities to manage expectations and drive results. Your role includes:

  1. Comprehending project scope and defining clear timelines to meet deliverables with precision and efficiency.
  2. Developing detailed project plans, managing schedules effectively, and executing tasks with a strong focus on time management.
  3. Applying project management principles to oversee all aspects of the development cycle.
  4. Understanding manufacturing processes related to hoses and rubber parts, including supplier capabilities and constraints.
  5. Establishing comprehensive knowledge of costs associated with sheet metal tooling, rubber manufacturing, and related processes to ensure the project budget aligns with expectations.
  6. Possessing a solid grasp of taxation elements such as GST and VAT that impact cost structures.
  7. Building and maintaining robust relationships with a diverse supplier base to optimize quality and delivery performance.

This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, risk assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing project execution and supplier performance. You will be instrumental in driving cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless integration of parts development into the overall product lifecycle.

Experience

Candidates should bring between 5 to 8 years of progressive experience within the automotive industry, particularly in product development or supply chain management roles related to engine components or power systems.

Experience working with Tier 1 suppliers or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) is highly valued, demonstrating a track record of successfully managing complex part development projects from concept through to production launch. Familiarity with supplier quality management, technical specifications, and project delivery standards under rigorous timelines is essential.

Candidates should also show expertise in utilisation of enterprise resource planning systems, ideally SAP MM module, and have a solid understanding of quality management systems such as APQP and PPAP processes. Experience coordinating cross-functional teams, including quality, manufacturing, and procurement, will be critical for success in this role.

Industry Preferred

Preferred candidates will have industry experience primarily within Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or Tier 1 suppliers, specifically those who have supported engine or powertrain product lines. Experience in companies that design and manufacture rubber and silicon hose systems, exhaust assemblies, and related components is advantageous.

Candidates with backgrounds in power generation equipment (gensets) or related heavy machinery manufacturing industries will also find their experience highly relevant.

Such industries should not include direct suppliers to Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd but those operating at the Tier 1 supply level, ensuring familiarity with high standards of quality control and complex supply chain dynamics.

Qualifications

Minimum educational qualifications required include a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical Engineering or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) from a recognised institution.

Proficiency in English, Hindi, and Marathi languages is mandatory to facilitate effective communication with diverse teams and stakeholders, both internal and external.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent command over supplier relationships, including strong negotiation skills, an understanding of supplier operations, and the ability to manage supplier performance metrics.

General Requirements

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and other relevant quality management systems to ensure consistent delivery excellence.
  2. Familiarity with Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) functions to conduct Product Technical Reviews (PTR) at supplier facilities and coordinate with Supplier Quality Engineers (SQI) to close PPAP loops.
  3. Proficient experience using SAP, particularly the Material Management (MM) module, for effective procurement and inventory transactions.
  4. Strong command of Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for documentation, reporting, and presentation of project status updates and quality metrics.
  5. Working knowledge of business process management software such as Cordys or equivalent tools to streamline workflows and improve process efficiencies.
