Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As a Manager - Strategic Sourcing (CLPL) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd's Automotive Division, you will be critical in managing cost-effective sourcing strategies and overseeing the entire costing process for automotive components. Your responsibilities include:
- Developing and applying in-depth knowledge of various materials and aggregates used in automotive manufacturing, including sheet metal, plastics, rubber, electrical, electronics, casting, and forging.
- Focusing particularly on Electrical and Electronics components, staying up-to-date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
- Overseeing special processes such as plating, welding, and PCB technologies to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
- Monitoring raw material cost trends and standards across multiple industries to anticipate and respond to supply chain shifts.
- Accurately costing products based on detailed drawings and circuit inputs, performing thorough analysis to support budgeting and forecasting.
- Establishing and implementing pricing strategies for key and critical components, managing supplier relationships to safeguard the Bill Of Material (BOM) costing and reduce financial risks.
- Understanding domestic and import tax structures and their direct impact on BOM cost, ensuring compliance and optimization of fiscal liabilities within sourcing activities.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of skilled Cost Engineers, fostering a culture of excellence to generate project-specific zero base costing models and enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintaining and tracking BOM costs across multiple projects, using advanced tools and systems to provide accurate, real-time financial insights to stakeholders.
- Evaluating the impact of currency fluctuations and commodity inflation on project budgets and BOM costs, preparing risk mitigation strategies and financial contingency plans accordingly.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, finance, and supplier teams to drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and market competitiveness.
Travel is expected as part of your role to meet with suppliers, attend industry events, and collaborate with global teams.
Experience
The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 12 years of professional experience, preferably within the automotive sector or a related manufacturing industry. Your extensive background should demonstrate:
- Comprehensive exposure to strategic sourcing and cost engineering, especially dealing with electrical and electronic automotive components.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects involving cost analysis, supplier negotiation, and BOM oversight on a large scale.
- Experience interacting with diverse suppliers and navigating the complexities of domestic and international tax impacts on procurement.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in building and guiding high-performing teams committed to cost optimization and process improvement.
- A track record of successful implementation of cost-saving measures that positively impact product pricing and company profitability.
- Strong analytical aptitude to evaluate market trends, currency fluctuations, and commodity price variations, with an ability to forecast their effects on sourcing strategies.
- Proficiency in using modern cost management and project tracking tools, plus excellent communication skills to liaise effectively across departments.
Experience in a global or multi-national organizational setting will be highly valued, emphasizing adaptability and cultural competence.
Industry Preferred
We seek candidates with experience primarily in the automotive manufacturing industry, encompassing sectors involved with component manufacturing such as Electrical, Electronics, Sheet Metal, Plastics, Rubber, Casting, and Forging. Experience in related fields like industrial manufacturing, electronics production, or heavy machinery may also be advantageous.
Candidates with backgrounds in companies engaged in high-volume, high-complexity supply chain and sourcing operations will find a good fit within our dynamic environment.
Familiarity with industries where new and advanced technologies are rapidly evolving—such as electric vehicle components or advanced electronics manufacturing—would be a distinct advantage to keep pace with innovation and market demands.
Qualifications
Minimum educational qualification for this role is a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical discipline.
Additional certifications related to supply chain management, cost engineering, project management (such as CPM or PMP), or lean manufacturing principles would be favorable and recognize your dedication to professional growth and excellence in strategic sourcing.
Strong proficiency in cost analysis, budgeting, and pricing strategies is essential, coupled with familiarity with tax implications in domestic and international procurement to execute the role effectively.
