Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

  • System Architecture & Design Leadership
Lead the technical development and architecture of advanced containerized and custom Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), spanning capacities from 10 kWh up to multi-GWh scales. Responsibilities include overseeing the integration of battery packs, Battery Management Systems (BMS), thermal management solutions, Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platforms to ensure seamless operation and optimal performance.
  • Develop, define, and maintain comprehensive system specifications including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), single-line electrical diagrams, and detailed performance models, aimed at delivering reliable, scalable, and efficient energy storage solutions.
  • Battery Pack Design & Manufacturing Oversight
Manage and direct in-house design and manufacturing of lithium-ion battery modules and packs. This encompasses cell selection, designs of mechanical structures, BMS hardware and software development, thermal curve management, and incorporation of critical safety features to meet industry standards.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to optimize Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) processes, establishing and enforcing quality and safety standards including UN38.3, IEC 62619, UL 9540A, and NFPA 855 to ensure compliant, cost-effective production.
  • Lead and manage cell evaluation and qualification protocols, including second-source strategies to mitigate supply chain risks and enhance technology resilience.
  • Project Technical Management
Serve as the primary technical liaison interfacing with clients, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners, utilities, and independent engineers through all phases of Request for Proposal (RFP), design, construction, and commissioning to ensure project delivery aligns with technical and contractual requirements.
  • Review, approve, and provide detailed technical feedback on EPC designs, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) protocols, and performance guarantees to uphold project quality and compliance.
  • Standards, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all designs and executions meet or exceed the latest grid codes, electrical safety standards (such as UL 9540 and IEC 62933), and insurance mandates, maintaining high levels of safety and reliability.
  • Lead risk assessment and hazard mitigation efforts including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), focusing on prevention of thermal runaway propagation and other critical safety threats.
  • Innovation & Technology Roadmap Development
Drive the strategic technology roadmap including next-generation battery chemistries such as Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), semi-solid state, sodium-ion batteries; hybrid energy storage systems; second-life battery applications; advanced BMS algorithms; and cloud-based data analytics for performance optimization.
  • Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging suppliers and components such as advanced cells, inverters, and fire suppression systems to continually enhance system capability and cost efficiencies.
  • Team Leadership & Development
Mentor, develop, and expand the battery systems engineering team fostering a collaborative, innovative culture. Establish standardized best practices, design tools, and build a comprehensive internal knowledge repository to improve team productivity and technical excellence.
