Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As the Deputy Manager - Maintenance (Utilities) in the Farm Division at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will take ownership of ensuring the seamless operation and upkeep of all utility systems vital to our manufacturing processes. Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing and maintaining analytical quality control tools such as Kaizens, VSM, QC Story, MFMEA, CBM, TBM, and advanced root cause analysis techniques to enhance equipment reliability and process efficiency.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical power presses and EOT cranes, ensuring swift resolution to minimize downtime.
- Hands-on repair and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems associated with production presses.
- Performing precise inspections and adjustments to maintain optimal parallelism and perpendicularity in the presses, guaranteeing product consistency and machinery longevity.
- Monitoring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and legal requirements relevant to safety, environmental standards, and operational protocols.
- Driving preventive maintenance metrics including PM uptime, Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) for tryout and spotting presses, CNC machines, and critical utility equipment such as overhead cranes, diesel generators, compressors, and forklifts.
- Planning, controlling, and monitoring spare parts inventory effectively to support continuous manufacturing without disruption.
- Championing the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) PM pillar activities to foster a culture of proactive maintenance and operational excellence.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop maintenance schedules that align with production targets and quality standards.
- Leading a team of maintenance technicians, providing coaching, skill development, and motivation to achieve high performance and adherence to safety protocols.
- Utilizing data-driven approaches to analyze equipment performance, identify improvement opportunities, and execute strategies for sustained productivity gains.
This role requires a proactive mindset, strategic foresight, and the ability to maintain high equipment availability in support of our tractor manufacturing operations.

Education Qualification
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, to ensure a robust understanding of mechanical systems and maintenance principles integral to the utility functions within a manufacturing environment.
Educational background should demonstrate a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals coupled with applied knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, machinery diagnostics, and industrial maintenance practices.
Additional certifications or training in maintenance management, quality systems such as ISO standards, or specialized technical courses related to CNC machinery or TPM methodologies will be regarded as valuable assets.
Continuous professional development and a commitment to staying abreast with advancements in maintenance technology and regulatory standards are essential to excel in this role.
General Experience
Candidates should bring a general experience profile ranging between 5 to 11 years within the engineering or automobile manufacturing sectors, preferably with exposure to engine or farm machinery production environments.
This experience should reflect increasing levels of responsibility in maintenance operations, with a demonstrated track record of successfully managing utility maintenance tasks including mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system upkeep, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance planning.
Experience in coordinating with production teams, overseeing compliance with safety and quality standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives will be critical.
Exposure to industry best practices such as Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and quality frameworks (ISO 9000, ISO/TS 16949) will support effective performance in this role.
Critical Experience
Critical to success in this role is hands-on experience and technical expertise in the following key areas:
- Proficient knowledge and application of Analytical QC Tools such as Kaizens, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), QC Story methodologies, Machinery Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (MFMEA), Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), and Time-Based Maintenance (TBM).
- Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical power presses and Electric Overhead Traveling (EOT) cranes ensuring their reliability and adherence to safety norms.
- Strong skills in diagnosing and maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in press machinery.
- Experience in precise alignment and adjustment procedures including checking and correcting parallelism and perpendicularity of presses to maintain product quality and equipment functionality.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee preventive maintenance schedules and metrics for various equipment, including ensuring optimal uptime and managing Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) statistics for CNC machines, tryout and spotting presses, and essential utilities such as DG sets, compressors, forklifts, and cranes.
- Competence in managing statutory, regulatory, and legal compliance related to equipment maintenance and safety regulations.
- Strong organizational capability in planning, controlling, and monitoring inventory of spare parts and maintenance resources to ensure maintenance readiness.
- Leadership experience implementing TPM PM pillar activities and driving maintenance excellence initiatives that support cost-efficient and sustainable manufacturing operations.
