Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As the Deputy Manager - Maintenance (Utilities) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of utility and manufacturing equipment essential to our tractor production processes. Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee and implement maintenance strategies for mechanical power presses, EOT cranes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Conduct thorough troubleshooting and root cause analysis to swiftly resolve mechanical and system issues, utilising tools such as Kaizens, VSM, QC Story, MFMEA, CBM, and TBM methodologies.
- Monitor and improve equipment uptime metrics including MTTR, MTBF, and preventative maintenance schedules, particularly for tryout and spotting presses, CNC machines, overhead cranes, DG sets, compressors, and forklifts.
- Ensure statutory, regulatory, and legal compliance related to equipment and occupational health and safety standards across the manufacturing utility infrastructure.
- Plan and control spare parts inventory to maintain readiness and avoid production downtime, coordinating with procurement and stores teams.
- Lead the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Pillar activities, specifically focusing on PM and uptime improvement across utility equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence within the facility.
- Develop maintenance schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans aligned with business objectives and farm division goals.
- Mentor and develop a skilled maintenance team, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and performance standards.
This position reports to the Utility Maintenance department within the Manufacturing division and directly contributes to maintaining the highest levels of equipment reliability, supporting Mahindra's commitment to quality, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Education Qualification
Educational qualifications required for this role include a Bachelor of Engineering degree, preferably with a focus in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates with degrees from accredited institutions that demonstrate a strong foundation in mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and industrial maintenance will be well positioned for success.
Additional preferred qualifications or certifications:
- Certification in Maintenance and Reliability Engineering or related fields.
- Training in TPM methodologies, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or ISO standards related to quality and occupational health & safety.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems design and repair techniques.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements under ISO 9000, ISO TS 16949, OHSAS 18001, and related quality and safety standards.
Continued professional development and technical upskilling aligned with evolving maintenance technologies and methodologies will be encouraged and supported.
General Experience
The ideal candidate will possess between 5 to 11 years of progressive experience in maintenance management within the engineering, automobile, or engine manufacturing sectors. Experience requirements are broadly categorized as follows:
- Mid-Level (5-7 years): Demonstrated hands-on maintenance experience with machinery such as mechanical presses, CNC equipment, and utility services including cranes and compressors.
- Senior-Level (8-11 years): Proven leadership responsibilities overseeing teams and maintenance projects, delivering improvements in equipment uptime and regulatory compliance.
Experience working in complex manufacturing environments with stringent process controls and safety requirements is essential. Exposure to TPM implementation, troubleshooting mechanical and pneumatic systems, and managing spare parts logistics will be critical to success.
Candidates are also expected to have a proven track record of collaborating cross-functionally in manufacturing settings, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining compliance with industry standards.
Critical Experience
Critical experience for the Deputy Manager - Maintenance (Utilities) position includes:
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on expertise with Analytical QC tools, ISO standards, Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Quality Control Story, Machinery Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (MFMEA), Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), and Time Based Maintenance (TBM).
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities for mechanical power presses, End of Travel (EOT) cranes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical misalignments such as parallelism and perpendicularity on presses.
- Experience monitoring and enhancing maintenance metrics like Preventive Maintenance (PM) uptime, Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) specifically for tryout and spotting presses, CNC machines, and utility equipment including overhead cranes, Diesel Generators (DG) sets, compressors, and forklifts.
- Competence in planning, controlling, and monitoring inventory of spares critical for uninterrupted operations.
- Proven leadership in executing TPM PM pillar activities, demonstrating consistent results in uptime improvement and maintenance cost optimisation.
- Familiarity with statutory, regulatory, and legal maintenance compliance within manufacturing environments, particularly in the automotive and engineering industries.
