Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Deputy Manager - Maintenance for the Paint Shop at Mahindra Tractors, your core responsibility will be to ensure the uninterrupted operation and maintenance of paint shop machinery and equipment to meet production goals. Key deliverables include:

  • Maintaining and enhancing the performance of the production line by implementing preventative and corrective maintenance activities to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnosing and resolving chronic equipment issues through root cause analysis and timely interventions to improve reliability.
  • Planning and managing spare parts inventory to guarantee availability and reduce lead times while optimizing cost efficiency.
  • Coordinating and overseeing planned maintenance (PM) activities ensuring adherence to schedules, safety standards, and quality benchmarks.
  • Conducting detailed breakdown analysis to identify recurrent mechanical and electrical faults, and designing sustainable solutions.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence, safety, and environmental compliance within the paint shop.
  • Leading the implementation of new projects and equipment upgrades in collaboration with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and engineering to ensure smooth integration.
  • Ensuring all maintenance activities uphold stringent safety protocols, fostering a safe working environment for all personnel involved.
  • Developing and mentoring maintenance teams by promoting best practices, technical upskilling, and adherence to company standards.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics or a Bachelor of Technology, ideally gained from a recognized institution. The educational background should encompass core engineering principles that enable the candidate to understand complex mechanical and electrical systems typical in paint shop operations.

Advanced certifications in maintenance management, reliability engineering, or related fields will be considered advantageous. These qualifications enhance the ability to implement modern maintenance strategies such as predictive maintenance and reliability-centred maintenance.

Furthermore, practical knowledge of safety standards, industrial automation, and equipment control systems through formal training or courses will be valuable in effectively performing the role.

General Experience

Applicants should possess between 2 to 8 years of relevant experience in maintenance roles within a manufacturing environment, preferably in sectors involving heavy machinery or automotive production lines.

Demonstrated experience in maintenance of paint shops or similar facilities, including hands-on involvement in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and spare parts management is essential. Candidates must show proven ability to work in a structured manufacturing setting while complying with safety and quality standards.

Experience working with cross-functional teams, managing projects, and leading maintenance activities in a fast-paced environment will be highly regarded.

Effective communication skills and teamwork aptitude are important to coordinate successfully with various stakeholders including engineering, production, and quality assurance teams.

Critical Experience

Critical expertise for the Deputy Manager role includes comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes for paint shop operations, especially pertaining to electric, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.

  • In-depth understanding of troubleshooting methodologies to identify root causes for chronic failures in coating equipment and conveyors.
  • Experience with planned preventive maintenance (PM) scheduling tools and spare part planning strategies to optimise operational availability.
