Assistant Manager - Drivetrain

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

  • Lead the Dexterity School initiative focused on foundational skill enhancement for the workforce to ensure high-quality outputs and operational consistency.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive training modules covering methodologies such as MOST, TPM, TQM, EHS, and 5S, aimed at achieving operational excellence including zero defects, zero accidents, and zero breakdowns.
  • Drive process orientation awareness programs targeted at both officers and shop floor employees to foster a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
  • Design and develop induction and awareness modules that provide in-depth knowledge of vehicle assembly processes, electric vehicle (EV) aggregates assembly, including coverage of critical parameters such as SC/CC, PFC, PFMEA, SOPs, and control plans.
  • Champion initiatives that enhance workplace culture, contributing to the organisation's goal of becoming a great place to work.
  • Establish and institutionalise measurable frameworks for evaluating training effectiveness, ensuring continuous enhancement of training quality and relevance.
  • Calculate and analyse ROI for training investments to validate the impact and justify resource allocation.
  • Ensure achievement of annual training targets by crafting a detailed Training Calendar derived from skill gap analysis and competency assessments.
  • Conduct skill and knowledge assessments for employees spanning operator to engineering levels to tailor training interventions appropriately.
  • Prepare and manage training budgets efficiently, collaborating closely with departmental heads to optimise allocation of resources.
  • Plan, organise, and conduct technical training sessions for both production and support services teams, aligning with operational goals.
  • Oversee the execution of monthly and annual training plans ensuring alignment with manufacturing schedules and business priorities.
  • Carry out rigorous assessments of employee capacity during and after training programmes to measure knowledge retention and practical application.
  • Utilise manpower, methodologies, materials, and other assets effectively to fulfil training objectives within stipulated timelines.
  • Implement and maintain standardised training procedures aligned with production schedules to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational documentation standards and support Total Quality Management (TQM) initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Lead Quality Circle activities and related forums (MYB, MGB), encouraging employee participation and engagement in quality improvement and suggestion programmes; serve as an internal judge and audit team member.
  • Facilitate basic engineering skill development initiatives tailored for Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) and Diploma Engineer Trainees (DETs).
  • Perform internal audits in compliance with IATF16949, ISO14001, and ISO45001 standards to uphold quality, environmental, and occupational health & safety management systems.
  • Support manpower planning, recruitment, and induction processes to ensure smooth onboarding and alignment with organisational needs.
  • Act as 5S Coordinator and Lead Auditor, spearheading workplace organisation and cleanliness initiatives to enhance efficiency and safety.

Experience

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 7 years' experience specifically within the electric vehicle (EV) sector, with a strong emphasis on drivetrain assembly and manufacturing processes. Experience should encompass practical knowledge of EV component integration, assembly workflows, and quality controls to support high-volume production environments. Candidates with a background in process optimisation, workforce training, and implementation of quality and safety standards in an automotive or electric mobility context will be highly valued. Prior exposure to leading training initiatives and development programmes within manufacturing is advantageous, demonstrating capability in building technical competencies in diverse teams. Familiarity with standards such as IATF16949 and ISO protocols is expected to ensure compliance and continuous improvement within production practices.

Industry Preferred

Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry is preferred, particularly within electric mobility or drivetrain manufacturing domains. Organisations involved in electric vehicle production, component assembly for EVs, or other related clean energy automotive sectors constitute relevant industry experience. Candidates with backgrounds in companies focusing on process excellence, quality management systems, and workforce skill development within manufacturing plants will find this role aligns well with their expertise. Prior roles in manufacturing companies embracing innovation in EV technology, sustainable production methods, and operational excellence frameworks will be highly regarded.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Mechanical or Production Engineering from a recognised institution. Additional certifications or training in industrial engineering, manufacturing processes, or lean management would be advantageous. A strong foundation in mechanical systems, process optimisation, and quality management principles is essential. Qualifications demonstrating knowledge of automotive assembly line protocols, electric vehicle technology, and standards compliance are preferred to support effective training design and implementation. Continuous professional development in areas such as occupational health, safety, and environmental management systems will be a plus.

General Requirements

The position demands strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple training programmes and manage cross-functional teams effectively. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication abilities to facilitate training sessions and collaborate with various stakeholders across manufacturing departments. Analytical skills for assessing training outcomes, calculating ROI, and competency assessments are vital. The role does not require travel, allowing for focus on site-based responsibilities.
