Maintenance Officer - Utility

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

The Utility Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, operating, and maintaining all air and water utility systems of the manufacturing plant. The role ensures uninterrupted supply of compressed air, chilled water, process water, RO/DM water, cooling towers, and effluent treatment facilities. The position is crucial for ensuring plant uptime, resource efficiency, statutory compliance, and implementation of energy‑saving initiatives.

Preparation and updating of dept. manual, maintaining dept. records. Documents and data control. Updating of Aspect-impact / HRA register especially after occurrence of incidence / Accident

A. Air Utility Management

  • Manage and maintain air compressors (screw/centrifugal), dryers, receivers, pipelines, and associated distribution systems.
  • Monitor and control compressed air quality, dew point, pressure levels, and leak management.
  • Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance of all air systems to avoid downtime.

B. Water Utility Management

  • Oversee operations of raw water, soft water, RO/DM plants, hot water systems, and boilers (if applicable).
  • Manage cooling towers, chillers, pumps, and water supply/distribution networks across the plant.
  • Monitor water chemistry, TDS levels, temperature differentials, and cycle of concentration.
  • Implement water conservation and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) initiatives where applicable.

C. Effluent & Sewage Treatment

  • Ensure efficient functioning of ETP, STP, and sludge handling systems.
  • Ensure disposal of treated water as per PCB norms.
  • Maintain required documentation and records for audits and compliances.

D. Maintenance Planning & Reliability

  • Prepare annual and monthly preventive maintenance plans (PMP) for all utility equipment.
  • Implement TPM/RCM/Kaizen practices to improve reliability and reduce cost.
  • Manage breakdown analysis and corrective actions.

E. Energy Management

  • Monitor electricity consumption of utility assets.
  • Identify and implement energy‑saving projects (VFD installation, heat recovery, air leak audits, etc.).
  • Support ISO 140001 ISO 50001 initiatives.

F. Statutory Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all utility systems comply with:
    • State Pollution Control Board norms
    • Factories Act requirements
    • Ensure safety interlocks, emergency protocols, and SOPs are in place.

7–12 years of experience in automobile or heavy manufacturing utilities. Hands‑on experience in operating and maintaining
