Shift Incharge - Assembly Backend

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

In Assembly Backend at Swaraj DIvision, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth daily production operations adhering to the production plan, with a commitment to zero line hold-ups by proactively resolving quality-related challenges. You will engage in effective, rapid communication with support functions such as stores, maintenance, quality assurance, and other relevant units to address and mitigate any issues impacting production flow.

 

1. Strategically manage and monitor manpower deployment and shift operations in the assembly area to maintain high efficiency.
2. Deliver crusade requirements and production improvement initiatives aligned with corporate goals.
3. Consistently meet and surpass daily, weekly, and monthly production targets through effective planning and execution.
4. Ensure a safe working environment by conducting regular Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and updating them accordingly.
5. Motivate and empower work personnel to actively participate in Kaizen initiatives, Quality Circles, and other continuous improvement activities.
6. Optimize utilization of all resources including manpower, materials, and machinery to enhance productivity.
7. Maintain comprehensive system documentation in compliance with TS16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards within the department.
8. Collaborate closely with peer managers to define objectives, understand cross-functional requirements, and align departmental goals.
9. Prepare accurate cost estimations and manage departmental budgets prudently to sustain profitability.
10. Organize workflows diligently to meet stringent product specifications and project deadlines.
11. Monitor production processes continually to identify and resolve bottlenecks or quality issues promptly.
12. Supervise and evaluate the performance of production personnel, including quality inspectors and assembly workers, fostering skill development and accountability.
13. Accurately determine and allocate necessary resources such as workforce and raw materials to match production demands.
14. Exercise strong decision-making capabilities with a results-oriented approach to drive departmental success.
15. Verify that all outputs consistently meet or exceed established quality standards.
16. Monitor, enhance, and sustain PQCDSM (Productivity, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale) parameters through daily Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle gap analyses.
17. Apply deep expertise in production management principles to improve operational effectiveness.
18. Maintain a thorough understanding of quality standards along with health and safety regulations applicable to the manufacturing environment.
19. Implement comprehensive performance evaluation and budgeting concepts to support informed decision-making.
20. Provide detailed reporting on key production metrics to senior leadership for transparency and strategic insights.
21. Demonstrate excellent organizational and leadership skills to inspire teams and drive production goals.
22. Maintain knowledge and oversee timely revision of controlled documents including Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Control Plans, SOPs, HIRAs, and Action Items (AI) to reflect change events accurately.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a related technical discipline, with preferred qualifications including:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Production Engineering
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Operations or Manufacturing Management is advantageous

Educational qualifications should be from recognised universities or institutions with a rigorous curriculum that equips candidates with strong foundational knowledge in production engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and industrial management.

Continued professional development and certifications related to quality management systems (e.g., TS16949), health and safety standards (ISO 45001), and environmental management (ISO 14001) will be viewed favourably and contribute to success in this role.

General Experience

Applicants should possess between 8 to 12 years of progressive experience in manufacturing environments, ideally within the automobile or tractor industries, where they have demonstrated increasing responsibility in production and assembly management.

Experience should include:

  • Hands-on leadership and operational management of assembly lines or production units
  • Proven track record in meeting production targets, managing resources, and ensuring quality compliance
  • Background working with manufacturing standards such as TS16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001
  • Capability in managing cross-functional teams and collaborating with production support departments
  • Engagement in cost optimisation, process improvement initiatives including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies
  • Familiarity with safety audits, compliance requirements, and implementation of health and safety protocols

Experience within a dynamic, high-volume manufacturing setting will strengthen the candidate's ability to navigate complexities and deliver operational excellence.

Critical Experience

The critical experience required for this role includes comprehensive expertise in the following areas:

  • In-depth knowledge and application of production management principles, with a focus on assembly backend operations
  • Strong familiarity with quality management systems, including Six Sigma methodologies, auditing practices, and inspection processes aligned with ISO 9000 standards
  • Skilled in Manufacturing Excellence and Manufacturing Systems approaches to optimize throughput and minimize waste
  • Proficiency in utilisation of Microsoft Office suite to generate reports, analyse data, and communicate effectively across teams
  • Experience in maintaining adherence to Quality Management System (QMS) protocols to ensure product and process quality compliance
  • Demonstrable expertise in manpower management and efficient allocation of human resources to meet production demands effectively
  • Ability to focus on consumer requirements and translate them into production and quality improvements
  • Track record of successful leadership in driving operational improvements and fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within manufacturing teams
