Shift Incharge - Assembly Backend

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

This role requires a proactive, capable of driving operational excellence, ensuring compliance, and fostering cross‑functional collaboration within Assembly Backend operations at Swaraj Division, Mohali

  1. Lead and manage manpower in the Assembly Backend shift, ensuring optimal deployment and smooth operations.
  2. Deliver crusade requirements accurately through effective cross‑team coordination.
  3. Consistently meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets through strong planning and execution.
  4. Ensure workplace safety by conducting HIRA, updating controls, and maintaining compliance with legal and organisational norms.
  5. Engage and motivate assembly teams to drive continuous improvement through kaizens, QCs, and other initiatives.
  6. Optimise utilisation of labour, materials, and equipment to maximise efficiency and minimise waste.
  7. Maintain meticulous documentation in line with TS16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, ensuring audit readiness.
  8. Collaborate with cross‑functional managers to align assembly goals with plant and business objectives.
  9. Prepare cost estimates and budgets; manage financial resources to support production without compromising safety or quality.
  10. Plan and organise workflows to meet specifications, timelines, and delivery commitments.
  11. Monitor production processes and resolve operational issues promptly to maintain uninterrupted flow.
  12. Supervise and evaluate assembly personnel and quality inspectors, providing feedback to support development and improve performance.
  13. Determine workforce and raw material requirements accurately to prevent shortages or delays.
  14. Apply strong decision‑making and a results-oriented approach to drive continuous improvement.
  15. Ensure all output meets stringent quality standards through regular audits and promoting quality consciousness.
  16. Track and improve PQCDSM parameters using daily PDCA cycles and systematic gap analysis.
  17. Demonstrate sound knowledge of production management principles and best practices in assembly operations.
  18. Implement quality, health, and safety systems effectively to safeguard employees and product integrity.
  19. Leverage performance evaluation and budgeting expertise to enhance cost control and operational efficiency.
  20. Prepare and present detailed production reports highlighting key metrics, trends, and improvement areas.
  21. Maintain strong organisational and leadership skills to foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  22. Manage controlled documents (PFD, FMEA, Control Plans, SOPs, HIRA, AIs) ensuring timely updates aligned with process changes.

Education Qualification

The ideal educational background for this role includes a Bachelor of Engineering degree specialising in Production Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. This technical foundation is vital for understanding complex manufacturing processes and engineering principles.

Additionally, possessing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) is advantageous as it complements technical knowledge with strategic, financial, and managerial expertise necessary for leadership positions within a manufacturing environment.

Recognition of alternative but equivalent qualifications such as a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in relevant disciplines is also appropriate, provided the candidate demonstrates comprehensive technical competency and practical experience in the field.

Ongoing professional development in areas such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Quality Management Systems (QMS) will be highly regarded and contribute positively to candidates’ suitability.

General Experience

Candidates should have substantial industry experience typically ranging between 8 to 12 years in manufacturing or assembly environments, preferably within the automobile or tractor sectors. This breadth of experience enables a solid understanding of operational challenges and best practices.

The role necessitates a proven track record of progressive responsibility encompassing manpower management, production scheduling, resource optimisation, and quality control. Experience in engaging and motivating teams to achieve high performance and continuous improvement is essential.

Proficiency in managing compliance with international standards such as TS16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 is critical, ensuring safe and sustainable manufacturing operations.

Strong familiarity with production metrics analysis and reporting is required to support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.

Exposure to cross-functional collaboration and communication within complex organisational structures will greatly assist in successfully navigating this leadership role.

Critical Experience

  • Demonstrable expertise in production management within automotive or allied industries, specifically overseeing assembly backend operations with responsibility for manpower and workflow management.
  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with quality management frameworks such as Six Sigma, TS16949, and overall Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Proven experience in implementing and maintaining occupational health & safety regulations including ISO 45001, ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of safety.
  • Competence in conducting thorough Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and driving risk mitigation plans.
  • Track record of leading kaizen initiatives, quality circle activities, and other continuous improvement processes that enhance productivity, quality, and employee engagement.
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated through effective supervision, performance evaluation, conflict resolution, and capacity building of diverse teams.
  • Expertise in interpreting and managing controlled manufacturing documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Control Plans, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and action tracking.
  • Sound financial acumen in budgeting, cost estimation, and resource planning to support efficient production without compromising standards.
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis, reporting, and presentation of production metrics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to liaise with cross-functional stakeholders and integrate assembly backend objectives with overall plant performance goals.
