Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As the Deputy Manager of Central Maintenance at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence and reliability of utility systems across our manufacturing facilities. Your core responsibilities will encompass:

  • Overseeing strict adherence to company policies, industry best practices, and standards to maintain regulatory compliance; actively liaising with relevant agencies and governing bodies to ensure all facility operations meet or exceed legal requirements.
  • Managing the breakdown and preventive maintenance of critical utility equipment including Diesel Generator (DG) sets, compressors, air dryers, hot water generators, HVAC systems, air handling units (AHUs), and electrical panels (HT and LT).
  • Conducting comprehensive analysis of equipment failures and preventive maintenance schedules to optimize uptime and equipment lifespan.
  • Planning, monitoring, and controlling daily maintenance activities while maintaining accurate records of spares consumption to ensure readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Applying expertise in energy-efficient equipment to direct project planning and execution aimed at improving sustainability, reducing operational costs, and enhancing facility performance.
  • Overseeing water treatment operations, encompassing Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), and Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, aligning with strict environmental and legal compliance standards.
  • Coordinating installation and commissioning of new machinery, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure and adherence to operational standards.
  • Estimating costs for spare parts and critical components by employing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to prioritize maintenance needs strategically.
  • Leading initiatives for resource conservation and budget revenue control, fostering a culture of operational efficiency.
  • Driving continuous improvement programs such as Kaizen, 5S, Quality Control (QC) stories, and Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs) to cultivate operational excellence and teamwork across departments.
  • Ensuring compliance with international standards including ISO 14000 (Environmental Management), OHSAS 18000 (Occupational Health and Safety), TSI 6949, and ISO 27001 (Information Security) through effective calibration, creation of robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.

Education Qualification

We require candidates with strong technical foundations, specifically holding a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent disciplines.

The successful candidate should demonstrate comprehensive academic knowledge relevant to industrial maintenance, utilities management, and engineering fundamentals to effectively manage complex mechanical and electrical systems.

Additional certifications or training related to project management, quality management systems (such as ISO standards), energy management, or health and safety regulations will be highly advantageous.

General Experience

Candidates should bring between 5 to 8 years of solid experience in maintenance management within manufacturing or related heavy industry environments.

Experience must include hands-on involvement in equipment breakdown analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, and maintenance planning for utilities encompassing mechanical and electrical systems.

Exposure to managing water treatment plants and utilities complying with environmental legislation is essential.

Prior engagement in resource conservation initiatives, spares inventory management, and budgetary control within maintenance operations will distinguish applicants.

Experience working with international standards such as ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000, and ISO 27001, and familiarity with continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S) is highly desirable.

A proven track record in coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and cross-functional maintenance activities under tight business timelines will be crucial.

Critical Experience

Critical experience for this role includes demonstrated expertise in overseeing complex utility systems and maintenance operations within a manufacturing context.

Proficiency in handling breakdowns and routine maintenance of critical equipment such as DG sets, compressors, air dryers, HVAC, and electrical panels is mandatory.

Strong capabilities in project planning and execution, especially relating to installation and commissioning of machinery, energy efficiency initiatives, and resource conservation programs are required.

Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology for critical spare parts planning and risk mitigation is essential for success.

Hands-on knowledge of regulatory compliance for water treatment plants such as Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), and Reverse Osmosis (RO) installations is necessary to maintain environmental governance.
