Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Deputy Manager - Maintenance within the Thar Body Shop at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, your role will be pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation and optimum performance of robotic and body shop equipment. You will engage extensively with advanced robotic systems including Fanuc and ABB robots, managing applications such as spot welding, material handling, sealant application, CO2 welding, brazing, laser brazing, sash correction, hemming, and door fitment.

  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot robotic systems to ensure operational efficiency and minimal downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to robot periphery, integration, and controllers while optimising robotic cycle times.
  • Operate and maintain robotic grippers and APC conveyors, implementing TPM, PM, CBM, and TBM systems to promote equipment reliability and preventive maintenance.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of PLC programming and controls troubleshooting to support maintenance efforts.
  • Maintain comprehensive oversight of various body shop equipment, including but not limited to Bosch adaptive welding controllers, Obara robotic servo guns, Graco/SCA robotic sealer systems, and conveyor & material handling systems from WEVIN and ATS.
  • Manage the upkeep of electro-pneumatic fixtures, CO2 welding/brazing machines (Lorch, ESAB, Fronius), manual spot-welding guns, pneumatic tools, MFDC tools, air balanced systems, slat conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and overhead hoists.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, promote safety, and reduce operational costs in alignment with manufacturing goals.

This role demands a proactive approach to maintenance, emphasizing both reactive troubleshooting and proactive system enhancements to support the manufacturing division's commitment to quality and efficiency.

Education Qualification

Educational Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related field. This educational foundation equips candidates with the technical knowledge necessary for understanding and maintaining complex robotic systems and electrical controls.

Supplementary certifications in robotics programming, industrial automation, or PLC coding are advantageous and highly regarded, contributing to faster adaptability and technical proficiency in this specialized maintenance role.

General Experience

The ideal candidate will bring between 3 to 9 years of professional experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of automotive manufacturing equipment, with significant exposure to Body in White (BIW) and weld shop operations.

The role requires hands-on experience in maintaining automated and semi-automated machinery within an industrial manufacturing environment, specialising in robotic systems and associated peripherals.

  • Experience in preventative and corrective maintenance techniques, with familiarity in TPM, PM, CBM, and TBM methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and engineering departments to ensure plant uptime and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple maintenance projects, prioritising tasks effectively in a dynamic production setting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Critical Experience

Critical experience required for this position includes:

  • Robotic Systems: Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience with Fanuc and ABB robotics platforms, including programming, integration, and troubleshooting in an automotive manufacturing context.
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC): Strong proficiency with Allen Bradley PLC systems to support advanced automation and controls maintenance.
  • Welding Controllers: Expertise in Bosch adaptive welding controllers facilitating efficient welding operations and quality standards.
  • Electro-Pneumatic Fixtures: Skilled in maintenance and troubleshooting of electro-pneumatic systems vital to the body shop's production processes.
  • Manufacturing Areas: Direct experience working in Body in White (BIW) and welding shops, with an understanding of production workflows and maintenance schedules that align with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Maintenance Management: Ability to lead maintenance operations, implement best practices, and utilise data-driven approaches to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
