Location:

Pithampur, Pithampur, IN

Company:  Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Design, define, and optimise assembly line processes for GB-Transmission assembly and testing, ensuring that equipment planning aligns with production goals and quality standards.
  • Lead the strategic planning and execution for new manufacturing projects, including formulation of manufacturing strategies, evaluation of must-have versus desirable features, and critical analysis of make versus buy decisions to ensure cost-effectiveness and agility.
  • Develop comprehensive manufacturing footprint layouts and oversee capital expenditure (CAPEX) planning to support scalable and efficient production environments.
  • Collaborate closely with design teams during Design for Assembly (DFA) workshops, providing active feedback to ensure manufacturability and design correctness while promoting continuous improvements.
  • Create detailed 3D models of manufacturing assemblies using industry-leading software such as UG-NX and Catia, translating engineering data into precise manufacturing blueprints.
  • Manage the procurement process for line First Time Guage (FTG) tools and related equipment, including Request for Quotation (RFQ) preparation, supplier coordination, and tracking through to installation and commissioning stages.
  • Plan and optimise line-side storage to facilitate efficient material availability and workflow continuity, including ordering and inventory management.
  • Generate Manufacturing Bills of Materials (M BOM) from Engineering BOMs (E BOM), ensuring accurate documentation for production use.
  • Prepare and maintain key manufacturing documents such as Process Flow Charts (PFC), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), ISO compliance records, and Management of Change (MOC) documentation to uphold quality and regulatory standards.
  • Develop sub-assembly BOMs essential for tryout and validation of FTGs at manufacturer facilities to guarantee readiness before full-scale production deployment.
  • Conduct detailed DFA assessments and tooling accessibility studies to improve assembly efficiency and ergonomics while minimizing production risks.

This role demands a proactive approach to process innovation and cross-functional collaboration, aligning manufacturing capabilities with business and quality objectives. The ability to manage diverse deliverables with precision and technical expertise is vital.

Experience

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 to 4 years of progressive experience in manufacturing process engineering, particularly within automotive or heavy machinery sectors. Proven hands-on experience with assembly line process design, GB-Transmission manufacturing, and testing equipment management is essential.

Experience working with cross-functional teams including design, quality, procurement, and production is highly desirable to ensure seamless integration from concept to implementation.

Familiarity with software tools such as UG-NX and Catia for 3D modelling, alongside AutoCAD for drafting, will be critical in executing the role with accuracy and efficiency.

Additionally, candidates should have demonstrated success in capital expenditure planning, manufacturing footprint optimization, and conducting design for assembly evaluations. Exposure to preparation and management of manufacturing documentation such as SOPs, PFCs, PFMEAs, and ISO compliance will add significant value.

Strong analytical capabilities coupled with excellent communication skills will be vital to coordinate effectively across departments and manage projects within defined timelines.

Industry Preferred

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in the following industries:

  • Automotive manufacturing, particularly in transmission systems or drivetrain components.
  • Farm machinery and agricultural equipment production, given the division focus on Farm Machinery Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
  • Heavy equipment manufacturing with emphasis on assembly line optimisation and testing processes.
  • Industrial machinery sectors where precision assembly and process engineering are critical.

Experience in companies known for strong manufacturing and engineering practices within these industries will be highly regarded and considered advantageous.

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. Tech or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or closely related fields.

Technical Skills and Certifications

  • Proficiency in advanced engineering and design software such as UG-NX and Catia for 3D modelling.
  • Competency in AutoCAD for detailed drafting purposes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing standards, quality systems (ISO standards), and process documentation methodologies including PFMEA and SOP preparation.

General Requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency with NX software and Catia to create accurate 3D models essential for assembly and process validation, alongside strong skills in AutoCAD for technical drafting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of assembly line manufacturing processes, particularly GB-Transmission and related testing protocols, ensuring operational consistency and quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with managing Engineering BOM (E BOM) and Manufacturing BOM (M BOM) transitions to support accurate production planning.
  • Capability to prepare manufacturing footprint layouts and coordinate CAPEX planning for equipment acquisition and line setup.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment relevant to assembly and testing processes, including tooling and first-time gauge (FTG) equipment management.

In addition to technical expertise, candidates must possess excellent communication and analytical skills, enabling effective collaboration across multifunctional teams, problem-solving ability, and success in delivering complex projects within deadlines.
