Deputy Mgr - Machine Shop(MTWD)

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

  • Lead material procurement and strategic planning for casting and Aluminium components essential to vehicle manufacturing, specifically targeting engines, transmissions to ensure seamless production flow across aggregates.
  • Efficiently utilize IT tools such as DBM, MES & SAP systems to manage & optimize inventory levels, and forecast material needs accurately, promoting data-driven decision-making.
  • Coordinate supplier capacity planning aligned with material requirements, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks and escalating issues timely to maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Oversee inventory management practices to balance adequate stock levels against cost-efficiency, minimizing waste and storage overhead while guaranteeing availability for production schedules.
  • Drive change management initiatives through Engineering Change Notice (EN) processes, ensuring all design modifications are effectively integrated into procurement and production workflows with minimal disruption.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies focusing on packaging optimization, material utilization, and logistics improvements, working cross-functionally to reduce overall operational expenses.
  • Collaborate with logistics and packaging teams to coordinate and monitor savings opportunities, fostering continuous improvement within the department’s supply chain activities.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on procurement performance, cost benefits realized, and potential risks, supporting informed strategic planning within the manufacturing division.

Experience

Candidates are expected to have between 3 to 5 years of progressive work experience in manufacturing procurement, supply chain management, or related fields within the automotive or heavy engineering sectors. Hands-on experience with procurement for casting and forging parts, familiarity with supplier management, and expertise in utilizing IT-based procurement and inventory tools are strongly preferred.

Proven ability to work within cross-functional teams and manage multiple stakeholders is essential. Experience in cost reduction initiatives, inventory optimization, and change management processes will be considered an advantage and demonstrate readiness for this leadership role.

Industry Preferred

Preferred candidates will have prior experience in the automotive manufacturing industry, particularly within divisions focused on two-wheeler vehicle production, engines, and mechanical aggregates such as transmissions and axles.

Exposure to foundry operations and forging processes is highly beneficial, as is familiarity with industrial manufacturing best practices related to materials procurement and supply chain optimization.

Experience working in large-scale manufacturing environments, especially within companies that emphasize quality assurance, lean processes, and sustainable sourcing, will be regarded positively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
  • Additional certifications in supply chain management, materials procurement, or production planning are advantageous.
  • Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes, materials specifications, and procurement lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency in IT systems relevant to material resource planning and manufacturing operations, such as ERP, DBM, LTP, and MRP tools.
