Assistant Manager - Tractor Assembly

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
- Ensure smooth daily production activities in accordance with established plans and schedules, maintaining high efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain zero hold up at the production line end by promptly resolving quality-related issues to uphold product standards.
- Facilitate effective and timely communication with cross-functional support departments including stores, maintenance, quality assurance, and other aggregates to promptly resolve operational challenges.
- Oversee and coordinate the monitoring and resolution of Inspection Reports (IR) on the production line, collaborating with relevant teams and agencies to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Manage the introduction and implementation of new models, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Engineering Release (ER) on the tractor assembly line, ensuring comprehensive documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), manifests, and On-the-Job Training (OJT) materials are maintained and updated.
- Take ownership of daily work management (DWM) for assigned shifts, closely tracking and acting upon key parameters including Production, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (PQCDSM) to optimize operational performance.
- Drive achievement of Akraman objectives including cost savings, Operator Improvement Targets (OIT), Continuous Improvement Targets (CIT), and Quality Control stories through collaborative and innovative approaches.
- Resolve issues related to Stockyard management, Gate Audits, Daily Production Reports (DPR), Card-based Reporting of Production Hours (Card RPH), and any occurrences of line stoppages, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Understand and ensure adherence to standards and requirements associated with TS (Toyota Supplier), Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Advanced Factory System Management (AFSM) to successfully navigate audits and compliance checks.
- Monitor the usage of consumables and stores items on the assembly line, identifying opportunities to reduce wastage and optimize resources.
- Collaborate with Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics (IEE) teams to address and close line balancing issues promptly to enhance workflow and efficiency.
- Actively contribute to the organisation's innovation initiatives by championing and facilitating the successful execution of innovation projects classified under A+, A, and B categories within the department.
- Lead training programs and staff development initiatives to upskill cell members, aligning with organisational growth objectives and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Preferred Industries
Education Qualification
The ideal candidate will possess an engineering or technical background, preferably with qualifications such as:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BE) specializing in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering.
- Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical or Automobile disciplines.
- Diploma in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering from a recognised and accredited institution.
A strong foundation in mechanical or automobile engineering principles is essential to effectively manage assembly line operations and drive process improvements in a manufacturing environment.
Additional certifications or training related to production management, quality control, or safety standards would be advantageous but are not mandatory.
General Experience
Critical Experience
Critical experience required for this role includes:
- Hands-on experience managing assembly lines specifically in tractor manufacturing or automotive assembly, with a strong emphasis on quality and efficiency.
- Proven ability to implement new model launches, PPAP processes, and engineering releases in a production setting, ensuring strict compliance to documentation and protocols.
- Demonstrated skill in resolving production hold-ups and bottlenecks, leading cross-functional teams in identifying root causes and instituting corrective measures effectively and swiftly.
- Experience working within the frameworks of industry standards such as TS-quality systems, OHSAS occupational health and safety norms, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Advanced Factory System Management (AFSM).
- Track record of successful execution and monitoring of key performance indicators including cost, quality, delivery, and safety metrics, coupled with an ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Competency in managing stakeholder relationships, participating in internal and external audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate standards.
- Leadership experience in mentoring and training frontline production staff, fostering capability building and engagement to drive team performance.
