Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

In your role as Deputy Manager - Paint Shop, you will take comprehensive responsibility for managing and optimizing all operations within the paint shop. This includes ensuring expert knowledge and application of paint coating processes, color matching, and coating effectiveness to maintain high product quality standards. You will oversee and coordinate daily activities across production, manufacturing, maintenance, engineering support, safety protocols, regulatory compliance, distribution, and warehousing. Working closely with the plant general manager or manager, you will direct the manufacturing operations to produce high-quality products efficiently and safely within allocated timelines and budgets.

Your responsibilities will encompass managing the development, execution, and continuous improvement of operational methods, equipment, systems, and infrastructure to meet strategic objectives. You will lead the creation and monitoring of production work schedules to align with internal goals and customer expectations, oversee process and personnel performance, identify and eliminate operational bottlenecks, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards. Additionally, you will lead cross-functional teams to implement best practices in maintenance management and drive initiatives to enhance operational excellence and cost optimisation.

Key deliverables include achieving safety compliance benchmarks, supporting sustainability efforts within manufacturing processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring efficient utilization of resources. You will also play a vital role in talent development and fostering collaboration across departments to meet organizational targets.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree in Technology or a relevant Engineering discipline, supported by a Diploma or equivalent technical certification demonstrating foundational expertise in manufacturing processes. A strong academic background in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering is preferred to adequately understand and manage paint shop manufacturing technologies and operational systems.

Continuous professional development and certifications related to manufacturing operations, quality assurance, or maintenance management will be advantageous. Knowledge in regulatory compliance and safety standards relevant to paint shop operations will also be highly valued.

General Experience

The role requires 5 to 7 years of progressive professional experience within manufacturing environments, with a considerable focus on paint shop or surface treatment operations. Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience in managing production workflows, maintenance routines, and quality assurance activities that ensure product excellence and operational efficiency.

Experience in implementing process improvements, equipment management, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards within a manufacturing plant is essential. Exposure to working in a cost-sensitive environment where operational excellence and team leadership are critical will be highly regarded. Prior involvement in cross-functional collaboration with engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives will strengthen candidacy for this role.

Critical Experience

Candidates must have a strong background in paint coating technologies, with detailed knowledge of application processes, paint chemistry, and color control to ensure coating effectiveness and durability. Proven expertise in handling paint shop manufacturing operations, including production scheduling, maintenance management, and quality assurance, is crucial. Familiarity with regulatory compliance relating to environmental, health, and safety standards specific to paint operations is required.

Critical experience also includes the ability to lead operational improvements using established frameworks such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Operational Excellence methodologies. Proficiency in cost optimisation strategies, process knowledge of Manufacturing Process Design Systems (MPDS), and equipment lifecycle management are key competency areas. Experience in managing and developing teams, fostering innovation, and driving change through strategic foresight will be essential to succeed in this position.
