Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As Deputy Manager - Production (Tractor), you will play a critical role in driving operational excellence within the Tractor Assembly & Testing department at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing labor costs through innovative productivity improvement initiatives on the production line.
  • Implementing stringent cost reduction strategies targeting scrap, consumables, and manpower expenses to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Leading the departmental budget planning, allocation, and continuous monitoring to ensure effective resource utilization.
  • Achieving and maintaining Supplier Performance Rating (SPR) above 90%, enhancing supply chain reliability and quality.
  • Conducting thorough defects data analysis and deploying corrective and preventive measures to minimize production deviations.
  • Overseeing market complaint analysis, driving resolution processes, and implementing monitoring mechanisms to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Leading and inspiring the assembly manufacturing team to achieve excellence in Product Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (PQCDSM) metrics.
  • Ensuring on-time delivery of products in alignment with production schedules and strategic plans.
  • Coordinating cross-functionally with internal departments, external partners, and vendors to foster continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Managing the new product introduction process including mass production establishment with strict adherence to quality and timeline targets.
  • Enforcing and adhering to comprehensive training schedules for both workers and staff to elevate skill levels and compliance.
  • Handling daily manpower management with a focus on conflict resolution, maintaining a harmonious and motivated workforce.
  • Conducting performance reviews, providing feedback and mentorship to team members, and cultivating a high-performance culture.
  • Performing gap analysis related to production losses, quality issues, and equipment breakdowns, then driving remedial actions.
  • Ensuring synchronization of parts across different tractor models to streamline production and minimize downtime.

This role requires a proactive leader with a strategic mindset and hands-on approach to manufacturing operations, committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 7 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the automotive or farm machinery sector. Demonstrated expertise in production line management, cost control, and quality assurance is essential.

Experience should include:

  • Leading teams in assembly or manufacturing settings, focusing on productivity enhancement and defect reduction.
  • Hands-on involvement with budget planning and cost management initiatives.
  • Implementing and monitoring quality control processes, including data analysis of defects and complaints.
  • Driving supply chain and vendor coordination to support manufacturing functions.
  • New product introduction and ramp-up experience, ensuring smooth transition to mass production.
  • Strong exposure to manpower management and training implementation.

Prior engagement with PQCDSM metrics and Lean manufacturing principles will be highly valued. Familiarity with industry-standard production and quality management software and tools is a plus.

Industry Preferred

Preferred industry backgrounds include, but are not limited to:

  • Automotive manufacturing, especially tractor or heavy machinery assembly.
  • Farm equipment production with a focus on mechanical and electrical systems integration.
  • Industrial manufacturing environments emphasizing mass production and process optimization.
  • Companies with a commitment to quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery in goods production.

Qualifications

Educational qualifications for this position include:

  • A Diploma or Bachelor's degree (BE or B-Tech) in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • Additional certifications in production management, quality control, or Lean manufacturing methodologies will be advantageous.
  • Formal training or coursework in industrial engineering, supply chain management, or project management is desirable.

Strong analytical skills, proficient use of production planning and quality management systems, and effective communication skills are essential to succeed in this role.
