Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
The Dy Manager - Safety will play a pivotal role in advancing the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) systems within the Automotive Division of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. This position requires proactive involvement in developing and enhancing safety management systems aligned with the OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards. Key responsibilities include implementing HSE strategies across manufacturing sites, identifying and mitigating workplace risks, and ensuring strict compliance with both statutory and client-specific safety regulations.
The role extends to conducting thorough safety inspections and audits, facilitating incident investigations including root cause analysis, and executing corrective action plans. The incumbent will foster a strong safety culture by delivering regular training programs, reinforcing adherence to safety protocols on the shop floor, and encouraging employees to actively report unsafe conditions and near misses.
Additional responsibilities encompass collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet sustainability goals focused on energy, water, and waste reduction, overseeing the permit to work (PTW) system for maintenance and production activities, and managing risk assessments comprehensively. The role demands close coordination with various internal teams and external regulatory bodies to ensure safety compliance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory requirements and maintain proactive liaison with factories department and pollution control boards.
- Provide guidance on safe work practices including machine safety, electrical safety, confined space entry, working at heights, and lockout-tagout (LoTo) systems.
- Lead coordination efforts with central safety committees and effectively deploy safety initiatives across facilities.
- Analyze safety data to identify trends and develop initiatives to prevent accidents and incidents.
- Manage fire safety planning, including fire separation systems and guidance to operations teams for emergency preparedness.
- Oversee environment and safety system audits to maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45000 certifications, ensuring internal audit readiness and compliance.
- Manage documentation and record-keeping related to safety operations, preparing detailed reports and safety operating procedures (SOPs).
- Facilitate safety ratification processes in collaboration with respective state government authorities.

Education Qualification
Applicants should possess academic qualifications in relevant technical disciplines to effectively support the responsibilities of this role. Preferred qualifications include:
- Diploma or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering
- Diploma or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering
- Additional certifications related to Health, Safety, and Environment management will be considered an advantage
Educational credentials should demonstrate a strong foundation in engineering principles, safety regulations, and environmental standards pertinent to manufacturing and industrial operations.
General Experience
The ideal candidate is expected to bring substantial experience in industrial safety management, particularly within large-scale manufacturing and chemical industries. The general experience requirements include:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in Health, Safety, and Environment roles within the manufacturing or related heavy industries.
- At least 2 years of experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment with exposure to chemical processing or handling hazardous materials.
- Proven track record in implementing and managing safety systems compliant with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Hands-on involvement in audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and facilitating safety training programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including operations, engineering, and external regulatory authorities.
Candidates with experience in automotive, electronics, chemical processing, or similar sectors will find their background particularly relevant for this role.
