Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
The Deputy Manager - Central Process Engineering (Tractor) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd will be entrusted with leading and managing comprehensive manufacturing operations within the tractor plant to meet stringent quality, cost, and delivery objectives. The role also involves spearheading digitisation efforts such as the integration of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and adoption of Lean manufacturing principles to transform plant processes.
The Deputy Manager will serve as a pivotal liaison with internal departments, suppliers, labour unions, and regulatory agencies to maintain compliance and positive industrial relations. The ability to lead change initiatives and drive strategic projects in Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is essential to this role.
- Provide leadership and direction for all plant operations including production, maintenance, engineering, safety, environmental compliance, and logistics.
- Design and implement manufacturing systems aimed at maximizing product quality, minimizing costs, and ensuring timely delivery.
- Coach and mentor plant teams to enhance performance, facilitate skills development, and support succession planning.
- Develop and manage production schedules aligned with both market demand and company targets.
- Lead digitisation initiatives, including MES deployment and continuous process improvements through innovative manufacturing techniques.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental guidelines, maintaining a safe workplace and regulatory compliance.
- Build and sustain strong partnerships with vendors, government regulators, and labour unions fostering mutual respect and alignment.
- Drive cross-functional Lean projects to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall plant productivity.

The position requires candidates to possess a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) degree or a recognized diploma in engineering disciplines related to manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial engineering from an accredited institute. This educational foundation is critical to understanding the technical and operational aspects of tractor manufacturing processes.
Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing technologies, production systems, mechanical design, and quality assurance principles underpinning the industry will be highly valued. Candidates with advanced certifications in lean manufacturing methodologies, Six Sigma, or digital manufacturing technologies will have a distinct advantage, as these credentials demonstrate capacity to drive efficiency and innovation in plant operations.

Proven expertise in managing operational excellence projects, resource planning, and production scheduling is essential. Candidates should showcase experience in driving digitisation and process optimization initiatives such as MES implementation, Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management (TQM), and other continuous improvement frameworks.
Experience working closely with diverse stakeholders including supply chain teams, quality assurance, safety compliance, government bodies, and labour unions will be necessary to ensure holistic operational integration and stakeholder satisfaction.
Critical Experience
Critical experience for this leadership role includes demonstrated success in managing complete manufacturing operations while concurrently overseeing a significant support function such as Supply Chain Management (SCM), Process Engineering (PE), or Production Planning & Control (PPC). Managing end-to-end processes from planning through execution and continuous improvement initiatives is a core requirement.
The candidate must provide evidence of pioneering digitisation projects that drive manufacturing innovation and operational agility. Competency in the deployment and management of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), as well as profound knowledge and application of TPM, TQM, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and Lean methodologies are essential.
Experience in effectively navigating complex relationships with government regulators, labour unions, suppliers, and other key partners is mandatory for ensuring compliance and fostering a conducive working environment.
