Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As the Deputy Manager for the Front Axle (K2 Project) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will be entrusted with overseeing critical aspects of engine assembly, testing, and performance evaluation to ensure alignment with production volume, quality, and cost objectives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the team to achieve production targets, ensuring excellent quality standards, and delivering cost efficiency without compromising customer satisfaction both internally and externally.
  • Mentoring peers and subordinates to foster organizational goals related to Production, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (PQCDSM), while cultivating a culture of skill enhancement, multi-skilling, and innovation.
  • Collaborating seamlessly with cross-functional departments such as Supply Chain, Planning, Maintenance, and Quality to synchronize efforts towards production and quality benchmarks.
  • Maintaining effective communication channels within the team to promote a positive and inclusive work environment, focusing on employee well-being, health, and safety practices.
  • Ensuring adherence to system documentation requirements in compliance with TS16949, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards, emphasizing sustained quality and environmental safety practices.
  • Driving Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives and encouraging active participation of the team in continuous improvement projects including OIT (Operator Instructional Training), CIT (Continuous Improvement Teams), Kaizen events, and other cost-saving endeavors.
  • Leading process development and enhancement projects aimed at increasing productivity, improving quality, and reducing operational costs with a sharp focus on customer needs and regulatory compliance, particularly concerning Tier 3 and Tier 4 as well as BS 4 emission norms.
  • Regularly reviewing testing parameters, engine emission standards, and performance metrics to ensure alignment with industry and environmental guidelines.

This role critically contributes to the success of the Mahindra Tractor Plant by integrating technical expertise, team leadership, and process innovation to uphold Mahindra’s commitment to excellence in manufacturing.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will possess solid educational credentials aligned with mechanical and automotive engineering disciplines. Minimum acceptable qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Automobile Engineering providing fundamental technical knowledge and practical skills pertinent to automotive manufacturing.
  • Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering, offering a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, design practices, and advanced technical acumen essential for managing complex production systems.

Educational backgrounds supported by relevant certifications in quality management systems, safety standards, or process improvement methodologies will be advantageous, reflecting a commitment to continual professional development and alignment with industry best practices.

General Experience

The role requires candidates with progressive experience in the automotive manufacturing sector, particularly within engineering, production, or quality domains. Appropriate experience levels expected include:

  • A minimum of 3 to 6 years of relevant hands-on experience for candidates possessing a B.Tech degree, showcasing significant exposure to shop floor management, product assembly, and process control in industrial settings.
  • 7 to 10 years of substantial experience for diploma holders, demonstrating extensive knowledge of manufacturing workflows, team leadership, and operational excellence.

Experience working within dynamic, high-volume production environments, coupled with demonstrated success in process optimization, team development, and cross-departmental collaboration, will position candidates favorably to excel in this role.

Critical Experience

Critical experience essential for this role encompasses a blend of technical expertise and leadership capabilities, including but not limited to:

  • In-depth knowledge of engine assembly processes, testing protocols, and performance evaluation metrics, particularly pertaining to emission norms such as Tier 3, Tier 4, and BS 4 standards.
  • Proven track record of leading teams to consistently meet or exceed targets in production output, quality standards, cost control, and timely delivery.
  • Expertise in implementing and sustaining quality management systems in line with TS16949, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and safety norms.
  • Experience in deploying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices, driving operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through initiatives like OIT, CIT, and Kaizen.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse functions such as supply chain, planning, maintenance, and quality assurance.
  • Competence in process development and innovation to enhance productivity, optimize costs, and uphold customer-centric manufacturing approaches.
  • Capability to oversee system documentation meticulously, maintaining accuracy and alignment with compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of occupational health, safety, and environmental (OHSE) standards, coupled with commitment to ensuring a secure and motivating workplace.
