Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Deputy Manager in Transmission Maintenance for Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd within the Farm Division, you will be entrusted with comprehensive responsibility to ensure the sustained performance and reliability of transmission lines in Mahindra tractors. Key deliverables include:

  • Consistently maintaining high operational efficiency of transmission lines by implementing preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.
  • Identifying and resolving chronic and recurring mechanical issues to minimize downtime and optimize productivity.
  • Effective spare parts planning and inventory management to ensure availability without overstocking, optimising cost efficiency.
  • Leading periodic Preventive Maintenance (PM) activities and inspections with detailed documentation and follow-up actions.
  • Conducting in-depth root cause analyses for breakdowns (b/d) and failures to develop sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety standards and protocols during maintenance and operational activities to foster a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Driving and overseeing the implementation of new projects related to transmission systems, coordinating with cross-functional teams to guarantee seamless integration and alignment with manufacturing goals.
  • Collaborating closely with research & development, quality, and production teams to continuously enhance transmission system performance.
  • Developing and mentoring a skilled team capable of executing maintenance and troubleshooting tasks with precision and efficiency.
  • Utilising data-driven approaches and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools to monitor, analyse, and improve maintenance outcomes.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation supported by formal education in engineering disciplines relevant to transmission and mechanical systems. Educational qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent bachelors level qualification in Technology (B.Tech) from a recognised university or institution.
  • Additional certifications or training in maintenance engineering, machine diagnostics, or reliability engineering are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software will be beneficial to effectively perform maintenance planning and analysis.

Continuous professional development to stay current with emerging technologies in transmission systems, CNC machinery, and drive systems is encouraged to maintain expertise aligned with industry advancements.

General Experience

Applicants should demonstrate relevant, hands-on experience within manufacturing or agricultural machinery sectors focused on transmission maintenance. General experience requirements include:

  • A minimum of 2 years and up to 8 years of progressive work experience in maintenance roles involving mechanical systems, ideally within large-scale manufacturing environments.
  • Practical exposure to maintenance planning, execution, and problem diagnosis that impacts production throughput.
  • Proven ability to use analytical thinking to troubleshoot complex mechanical breakdowns and implement lasting solutions.
  • Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams and leading maintenance initiatives to improve equipment reliability and safety standards.
  • Background in planning spare parts logistics and managing preventive maintenance schedules effectively for continuous operations.

The candidate should also display strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to contribute positively in a team-driven workplace.

Critical Experience

Critical experience for success in this role includes:

  • In-depth knowledge of tractor transmission systems including assembly, operation, and maintenance requirements specific to Mahindra tractors or comparable agricultural machinery.
  • Expertise in diagnosing chronic issues related to gearboxes, clutches, and driveline components with a methodical troubleshooting approach.
  • Competence in CNC programming and operation, combined with an understanding of drive systems to support advanced machinery maintenance.
  • Proven track record of initiating and implementing new projects or upgrades in transmission maintenance, demonstrating project management skills and change leadership.
  • Experience in safety management practices and adherence to industry regulations within a manufacturing environment to safeguard personnel and equipment.
  • Demonstrable ability to conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA) to identify weaknesses and prevent recurrence of faults.
  • Strong proficiency with analytical tools, and software related to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Leadership capabilities encompassing team development, cross-functional collaboration, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
