Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As the Manager of Paint Shop Maintenance at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will take ownership of ensuring robust compliance with established systems and processes within the paint shop department, with a sharp focus on delivering customer satisfaction and meeting market expectations. You will lead benchmarking initiatives to implement cutting-edge manufacturing technologies that elevate operational efficiency and product quality.
Your role includes meticulous planning to optimize utilization of human resources and machinery, spearheading cost reduction programs, and overseeing the installation and commissioning of new machinery with seamless integration into existing production lines. Implementing advanced maintenance techniques such as Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Time-Based Maintenance (TBM) will be key to enhancing machine availability and reliability.
Additionally, you will enforce strict adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) standards as well as Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) guidelines, cultivating a culture of safety and sustainability. Your commitment to continuous improvement will manifest through deploying low-cost automation solutions, applying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies, and utilizing Machinery Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (MFMEA) to diagnose and resolve machine issues proactively.
Utilizing methodologies like ECRS for breakdown reduction and QC Story for quality issues, you will actively contribute to the Quality Control Review Team (QCRT), fostering collaborative problem-solving and ensuring product and process excellence.
Your leadership extends beyond technical expertise, as you will nurture positive relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and customers, fostering engagement and teamwork to drive optimal results. A significant part of your mandate is to enhance the skills and competencies of maintenance officers through targeted training and development programs, preparing the team for future challenges.
Effective spare parts management through ABC analysis, strategic procurement, and budget planning—including capital and revenue expenditures—falls under your responsibility. You must maintain budgetary discipline, ensuring financial resources are allocated and utilized efficiently while leading resource planning efforts for the department.
You will also have the accountability to prepare detailed Monthly Management Information System (MIS) reports to monitor performance metrics, support informed decision-making, and track progress against KPIs. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical or Electronics disciplines. In addition, candidates with a relevant Diploma coupled with extensive hands-on experience will be considered. General Experience
The candidate should bring a minimum of 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing environments, preferably within the automotive or heavy machinery sectors, where paint shop operations are critical. Experience managing maintenance teams and processes in high-volume production settings is essential.
You should have substantial expertise in overseeing maintenance of complex industrial equipment, implementing preventive and corrective maintenance strategies, and driving continuous improvements that reduce downtime and enhance productivity.
Proven capability in managing budgets, resources, and procurement functions within a maintenance context is required to ensure financial and operational objectives are met. Experience liaising with cross-functional teams including production, quality, procurement, and engineering is vital to align maintenance activities with business goals.
A background in applying TPM principles, condition-based and time-based maintenance strategies, and participating in quality control forums will be highly beneficial. Experience in leading and developing teams, fostering employee engagement, and implementing training programs is also expected.
Critical Experience
Critical to success in this role is demonstrated expertise in applying advanced maintenance methodologies such as Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Time-Based Maintenance (TBM) to maximize equipment availability and reliability within a paint shop or equivalent manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience with machinery failure analysis tools including Machinery Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (MFMEA) and using systematic approaches like QC Story methodology to resolve quality-related maintenance issues is essential. Proficiency in implementing lean maintenance practices, including TPM and the ECRS breakdown reduction methods, will be key drivers for operational excellence.
Strong knowledge and practical application of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) standards and Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS) systems are mandatory to ensure compliance and foster a safe working environment.
